Plastic Battery Box, Possible 1.9 TDi (74kW) Modification

Post by Morné Pieters »

Hello Everyone

I have seen a few pictures here on the forum and have read about earlier Sportline models that came standard from the factory with the following plastic battery box below:
Image

It looks like a nice modification and I would like to know if I can get this plastic battery box from either Goldwagen or even VW for my 1.9 TDi (74 kW)? Is it expensive? Does someone have a part number? Will it have enough clearance or interfere with a PD160 intake installed? Will it be easy to install? Is it worth it or should I rather not bother?

The referred picture in the post is a modified version borrowed from Silverbird_96Kw pictures to show the plastic battery box with a yellow arrow.

I look forward to your feedback :hurray:

Hi man it is strange that your car didn't come standard with that battery box, i thought all TDI's had them. it won't be in the way for the pd160 intake.

Unfortunately they decided to do some weight saving on the sportline model to try and increase its performance at a lower cost begining to mid 07.

Full battery cover = Skeleton type

ECU security cage = NUDA

Bonnet shock = Old school style

Passenger height adjustable seat = Fixed, for extra passenger good vibrations

Extra compartment under passenger seat = More air space

Rear windows that could open slightly = Fixed for that air tight feel.

Im sure there is more

Its just a case of getting the part number or the chassis number so that you can order the parts, it fill be a direct fit.

PD160 snorkel will also fit, it will be tight but it will fit.

Thank you for the feedback sir. As BIGMIG said, I think the facelifted models did not come with the battery box. Also keep in mind that I don't have the Sportline 3-door model but the Highline 5-door model. Thanks for the info on the PD160

Would you like to have such a box under your bonnet sir? Maybe try the mode if it is not that expensive

Thank you for the feedback sir. I have the skeleton type battery cover as seen below:

The info on the Sportline 3-door model is interesting the changes they made. I presume this all happened on the face lifted model? I however have the Highline 5-door Model. If I give VW my VIN number, I guess that will not help as it did not come originally with such a battery box... Is there any other way to get the aprt number? I will try and dig form my side :geek: Thanks for the info on the PD160

Thank you for the feedback sir. I believe it looks much nicer with the battery box compared to the skeleton type.

The lid has two forks which slide into the holes (orange circle) on the fuse box and snaps over the red circle

Thank you for the part number sir, I really appreciate your effort
The part number you gave me put no on a search and I found the following thread on all the other part numbers, case, lid & fuse box assembly to make up one assembly below:

Thanks for the explanation on how the lid works and no worries about the dirty engine, mine doesn't look any cleaner anyways  and I have no excuse except being lazy
