Golf 6 Gti hard starting

Post by Phil »

Hi guys.I have a problem with my Gti.Vehicle battles to start up usually while still warm.Cranks fine but battles to fire-up takes 2 to 3 attempts sometimes having to floor accelerator. No errors come up.Vw checked it out for me and said the only error that came up was a cam sensor position error, but what I find strange is that the error only appeared once a few days ago but the problem is now daily.Any ideas?Regards

The chain tensioner might be on the way out. Take it back asap before the engine fails to start completely.

Camshaft positioning sensor.... is there oil seepage coming from it? Take it out and clean it then reinstall and see what happens! It's a common problem across the world on 2.0tsi's, oil seeps past its little green gasket and into the sensor itself.

cam chain jumped 1 tooth, thus the fault and the hard start. 1 more tooth and engine is game over. Have seen this plenty times. Tensioner failure allows enough slack to jump. Check urgently

Is there a definite way to confirm this?

I have similar problem, but VW says they can't find anything wrong..

So it's a back and forth saga with nothing getting done, and OP and me would be in similar situation...
We can't wait for it to break before anything gets done

Yes, you have to pay them. Unfortunately, they are not interested in doing anything before something breaks even when they know it's going to break.

Hi,what doesn't make sense to me is the fact that if I try and start the vehicle as soon as I have stopped and turned it off ,it starts with no hassle. It only occurs when the vehicle has stood for a few minutes.Would this still relate back to the chain having jumped a tooth?Would I not notice any deficiency while driving if that was the case?

The cam tensioner works with oil pressure.

Letting it stand for store time means the oil pressure needs to build up before it can tension the chain again.

What about possibly the hpfp?

Is supposed to prime when drivers door is opened, but i notice mines only starts when key is in ignition and in on position.

Phil, try putting key in on position for a few seconds and then start, and if it's better
