2001 Polo Playa 1.6i 8v Timing marks (engine afx)

Post by kyle12 »

Hello everyone happy easter,
Im just posting to find out if anyone has a diagram(and photos if you have?)
for the timing marks on a 2001 polo playa 1.6i 8v (AFX engine code). I have
searched around on the forum and I did find a lot of info on timing but I didn't
see anyone posting an issue with this motor (AFX). If anyone has a diagram and
photos if possible for me that will be awesome.
Thanks !

Did you change the cambelt lately or something that you want to fiddle with the timing?

Cam timing you set with a similar way as this thread:
http://vwclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=53999

But for ignition timing you going to need access to a digital timing light and VCDS software in order to lock the ECU in timing mode.

hey thanks for the reply. those timing marks were the 1. I didn't want to fiddle, just wanted to check that it wasn't out a bit. having over fueling problems. are there any other things to look at with regards to over fueling? well, using higher then normal fuel consumption. I know about giving the car a good service but would there be anything else to look at? Thanks

On the mp9 cars the usual culprit for over fueling is the temp sensor.

Best is to swop it out for a new one. its a quick fix. GW should be able to help

Nope water temp sensor.
Sits on the front top water pipe going into the head from the radiator.

Is there someone in Cape town that can help me with my timing? Took my car to a bunch of guys but no one seems to know about the ecu part.
