Post by StewPit »

Hi Guys,

Since i have decided to keep my cupra, and seeing those other BT vids.
I am also looking into this BT conversion, so know i would like to know what would the difference between a
GTB2260vk and GT2260v turbo is, and is it possible to fit a GT2260v on a Cupra TDI ?

GTB2260VK is from the 3.0TDI Audi, the other I am not sure think either the BMW or Merc 3.0tdi.

The GTB2260VK as far as I understand it has a electonic actuation vs vacuum on the Stock 1.9 tdi turbo so it will have to be converted but its used plenty all over the world as a upgrade on the 1.9 tdi's

All the 22/60's have to have the the actuator converted as Dazza said. If you want to do things properly buy the complete kit from Darkside in the UK. Their custom manifold is a work of art and they do the actuator conversion.

The guys in SA usually weld the 22/60 turbo to a stock manifold - some without even welding a flange and bolting the turbo on!... They just weld it straight on - Questionable flow when this is done?

The Darkside kit is custom built and tested for flow. If you want to go BT speak to the Rk Motion guys as they have the most experience in SA! After my turbo issue's I could have just put in 5k extra in the beginning and had the Darkside kit shipped over to SA :(

I would rather go 20/56 - Seen a few graphs and they seem to have nicer graphs than the 22/60's

im in the process of also doing a turbo upgrade on my cupra tdi.

im going with the Garrett GTB1756VK. yields up to 230HP.

and comes into full boost at 2100 RPM so very similar to stock

have a look at this Link there is a chart where u can see turbo specs of the different options.
http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/p ... gines.html

the darkside kit with the 2260 is going for £1,900.00 and £162.00 for shipping and that excludes import tax when it lands so its far from cheap!
which equates to
2,062.00 GBP = 36,635.22 ZAR
British Pound ↔ South African Rand
1 GBP = 17.7668 ZAR 1 ZAR = 0.0562846 GBP

so i hope u have very deep pockets if you plan to buy from darkside!

stock with a remap is ABOUT 170hp which is 132kw roughly

with the GTB1756VK. will be around 180kw and more torque obviously.

as per Ricardo from RK.

I am looking at the 2260's as i want more than 200kw when i complete the build.

This will only happen in the range of 6 months +.

Thats why i am looking into finding the correct turbo so long.
I know the GTB2260Vk comes on the E90 330D 2006 + and on the E60 530D 2006+.

And regarding the manni , i will probably find an extra on that they can use to build a new manni with a flange and not welding the turbo
on to it (I dont really see an issue with welding it on, unless by welding it on the heat can cause issues with the turbo ?)

Welding it on means chuck the whole thing away when the turbo pops one day. Flange and bolt on means it will be easy to swop the turbo only.
My issue with welding it on is how do you know the guy doing it knows exactly what he is doing and if the whole thing is 100% straight and if there are not any leaks.
I'm not convinced the flow will be 100% as the turbo was not built to run off that manifold in the first place - but I might be talking pooh  - Been proven by quite a few
guys that chop and weld works - but for how long?

You will need to upgrade your injector nozzles and have them calebrated also, this will cost almost more than the turbo...

Can still run the stock injectors but power will be limited.

Gtb2260vk all day everyday !!!! Gtb has quick spool and the power holds aaaaaaaal the way to the redline !! Hope you have deep pockets for this build !!

I dont really see anything wrong with welding the manifold onto the turbo but that's just me though !!

Sorry to necro this thread but there is a bit of miss information here.

The e46 330d 150kw came with a GT2260V which is vacuum actuated

The E90 330d prelci came with the same GT2260V which is electronically actuated

The early E60 530ds came with the GT2260V which is vacuum and the later ones use the E90 one which is electronically actuated.

The E90 330d lci (facelift) uses the GTB2260v (note not the vk, not sure what the difference is)

Then you can also get the turbos off the X5s and the 7 series.

Sorry I'm busy with a turbo upgrade on my e46 330d. And came across this thread.
