ABF intake manifold on ADY

Post by THANAS »

I saw a post a while back, where a 2E / ADY engine was being sold with an ABF intake manifold.

Now I know that one of the great assets of the ABF is its long runner intake manifold, how difficult is it to adapt to the geometry/port size of the ADY engine?

Will the bolt holes match? Are the ports at similar spacing? Can the MP9 TB fit onto the intake plenum?
I think it would be sick to run an ABF manifold on an ADY and at least some of the benefits should be translated.

Well that's just like your like opinion, maaan  . Kidding, yeah I see that the port shape is completely different, maybe if you had to fabricate the connector bend piece. Although the effort would far outweigh the gains.

And also result in a lower CR on the 8V blocks. :(

That would be cool, but only on a crossflow head. Why not build a custom bottom part with the 8 valve manifold and mate that with the part where the abf manifold screws onto?

I did this with a CTi and MP9 manifold, cut and joined the manifolds, basically made a MP9 manifold that fitted on a solid lifter (injector in head) head.

I see no reason doing this mod at all.

ABF manifolds are designed for 16v heads not 8v heads.

Well the ABF is so great as it succeeds the 9A manifold which had bumps and ridges in it and with the ABF being so smooth it made differences.

The ADY and MP9 dont have ridges etc so I don't see or think it will give any benefit but if you can find and abf mani please do it and report gains so we can all learn.

Like I said get a ABF head + intake, will definately see a power increase. A buddy of mine put a 16v head on hes 2E block, fits perfectly no hassels.

You can do this but your compression ratio will be low, in the region of 8.7:1

^ The forum has told me this is true. Is there enough metal for a good skim of the head to raise the CR back to normally aspirated levels? Would the Mahle ADY pistons then need to be pocketed for this repurposing, maybe?

If you want to stay NA skim the block or get higher pistons, don't grind away more of the head, the head is more valuable onmolested
If on the other hand you want to go boosted, then you can use any 16v head, but I would stay away from the ABF intake system, as it has integrated injectors and is difficult to fit bigger injectors to.
the KR and 9A intakes make this much easier. SUM DP 4 GP and Monster both have abf turbo setups, and it is possible, but will take more effort and cost than the other intakes.
