That's not so much of an additive in that you basically put it in once in a while. It's more a once of cleaner. Honestly haven't tried it so can't say.

The only additive I use is and injector cleaner every 15 000 klm's. I prefer Wynns Injector Cleaner (blue bottle) you can buy from a hyper or builders.

Doesn't that just do the same job as modern diesel formulations?

I used wynns diesel boost all the time in the TDI, worked very well! Even chucked in a bit in meantdi's car once.

Re: Additives

Post by 4ePikanini »

some additives work and some don't. Due to legislations regarding fuel and car design the additives may not be recommended or used as standard, but that does not mean they don't work.

2-stroke oil in your fuel at a 200:1 ratio is an old trick to clean carbon deposits from the valves, combustion chamber and exhaust ports as it burns with a de-carbonising effect. It can't be recommended by the fuel companies or car manufacturers as it slightly raises the CO2/km.

I would recommend using well known brands' injector cleaners as well as redex has been found to be good.

NB : Just be careful on diesels as some owner's have reported increased EGT's from injector cleaners.

I'm too scared to try additives in the GTI (sparkplugs).
That wynns diesel boost really made my car smoke less and lighter on juice.

The cost of the additive will offset the improved fuel consumption, if any.

Sorry for the old thread revive guys.

MeanTdi - do you still use this cleaner? I wan't to try this cleaner. Was in for a service the other day at the dealer and they offered me a fuel system treatment...R495 (excl VAT)

My car has +- 45 000 km's on it and think it's time I look into this cleaner to prolong the injector lifespan.

Any cons to using this cleaner/additive?

Yes, still do so every 15 000 klm's. No cons that I know of and no issues so far.

Glad this thread was revived.
Was also thinking of throwing a bottle of injector cleaner in my MK4, as she is acting up lately and suspecting the injectors to be the culprit.

Sorry for draging this out of the archives, but I have just got my Golf 5 GTi and would like to know if it is advisable to use Liqui Moly Proline System Petrol Cleaner.

Thanks

Have been using cetane booster in my car lately, there may be performance improvements but would need to get it onto a dyno to confirm

I'm about to do a service on the Polo - I was wondering maybe flush the system - drain the old water in the radiator etc - put new water in with coolant. Then maybe some injector clearer as well?

Or is that just wasting money and time?

I use spanjaard diesel cleaner in the pajero and it definitely helped clear up some smoke at idle.

My injectors tips are very clean - although I use 250ml 2 stroke oil per tank of diesel as well.

cetane boosters usually contain acetone or a derivative thereof which strips the lubricity of the diesel. Bad news for diesel HPFPs and injectors.

Just stick to plain diesel. If anything add 2stroke oil at a 1:200 mix. It adds lubricity and burns away carbon deposits.

Like I have said many times before, I would not add two stroke oil to diesel.

Id love to see further details and evidence on the tests they did as it contridicts common findings all over the world.

On top of that I posted an independent study where they did find that 2SO adds lubricity so their test results and methods are debatable.

2SO is specifically designed to be blended in much larger quantities in petrol engines to aid lubricity in the engine which has much greater lubricity demands on the bearings than our injectors.

Their logic does not seem logical to me but because a large company post an unverified statement without backing proof by independent observers it must be true.

I suppose the lot of us that use it have been extremely lucky

I have only seen practical positive results and nothing but theoretical negatives.

Until someone gives hard physical evidence to prove it's not good, I will continue to use it.

PS : I suppose the clever germans at Mercedes weren't so clever when they did their long distance test with 2SO added to the diesel and experience no failure. Those engines must be truly awesome if they continue to be reliable even with the addition of 2SO.

This was my pajero injector after 25000km run on 200:1 2 stroke oil mix

Image

My touareg injectors shortly after purchase which wasn't run on 2SO
