I have two HPFP's!
Mine gave kak last year and decided just to have spares on this thing. But I have MASTERED the Sensor part and know how to fix it. Also changing the Cam follower is a 15min jobbie!

That is your basic that you need to check when you have a misfire.
This much I know.
My misfire count tends to increase when I blip the throttle at idle. Given that at that point the rail pressure changes suddenly and quickly, the HPFP would be a logical place to look.

The HPFP has two Sensors,..The one on the TOP normally gives kak! I see you made mention that the Thrust Sensor and the Cam follower have been changed.
Do you have a pic of the old cam Follower and can you take a pic of the HPFP to see if the TOP Sensor not Cracked!
Mine never gave EPC light until the crack was worse. The car had very bad misfire and thought it was coils.

When I went to Shaheen @ E-Tuners we found TOP Sensor on the HPFP cracked.
Can email you a pic - struggling to upload it here.

Long story short in my case:

Logged low fuel rail pressure (Thanks MacMan), so replaced:

LPFP - in tank, side pressure sensor on HPFP and new fuel filter (the **** that comes out there  ), cam follower bucket.. Cleared logs after that, car was a bit more responsive but still bogged on WOT.

Upon closer inspection I saw that the plunger shaft was BAAAADLY worn ( about 1 mm  )
- will see if I can get pics upload of this. (my guess is this) Take off your HPFP again and inspect if its worn or not? I got a secondhand replacement one from Ruan (Thanks!)

Cleared logs again and no more issues. Unfortuneately this is a design flaw and a serviceable part from VW imho. Best to check this every 15000KM. Any wear on plunger, cambucket or follower will result in loss of performance guaranteed

Post some pics of what it looks like.

Mine had the same problem, changed thrust sensor and took out the lpfp and cleaned it and also used injector cleaner about 3 times and problem has gone. Try injector cleaner and see.

no EPC light.
is this not the same as the thrust sensor?

In my experience on my previous G5 Gti, first time it was PCV. Few years later same issue but was caused by fuel filter. Also, after an engine wash coilpacks can be the culprit, but not all 4 at once. Perhaps the person who logged it referred to cylinder 4 instead of all 4? Engine wash on those engines is not recommended, although I've never heard a dealership doing it...
