Look at the reference audio one. Its what im using and is decent considering the price.
If you wana spend abit more then look at stp, second skin and dynamat. Marlin can prob tell you how much is needed.

Re: Sound Deadening Material
I got a quote of R7500 to do a full cabin in my 2 door. Floor, firewall, boot, wheel roof and doors. They were even going to do inside the wheel arches.
Reckoned it would add an additional 50kg's to the overall weight of the car. Can't remember the name of the product now. Will find out for you.
Think it was like 6 boxes worth of this stuff.

Re: Sound Deadening Material
For my Velociti top to bottom and all sides...basically full STP deadening will set you back 30 sheets....I used 50 as I was doubling up on the roof area and the boot area where the golf is most weak in musical terms
We did my Brothers golf with SS sound deadening as he didnt see the need to waste money on expensive stuff even though I warned him about the consequences....He used 30 sheets as well...dead on
Budget I say...second skin...more budget targa or ss..which wont do the same job as second skin but thats a different topic all together...
Saloojees in roodepoort sells the SS and Targa at the BEST price in BOXES....

Re: Sound Deadening Material
Dohc, your post sounded like he did on the wheel side of the wheel wells, ie outside the car.
The stuff from builders is roof sealer not deadener, use it as such. Also not everything needs deadening over it, only parts that resonate.
Mars, what are you trying to accomplish? Im guessing a quieter car? Look into something like luxury liner pro, kak expensive though. Using deadener as soundproofing is like buying an uno to tow a caravan. It may work but its not whats it was made to do.

Its also the stuff you will find stuck underneath your kitchen zink unit to less the tin sound.

Re: Sound Deadening Material
Roof sealent is just a thin layer of bitumen stuck to a thin layer of aluminium foil. While it does dampen resonance slightly it is nowhere near as effective as sound deadener which has much thicker foil and a butyle rubber layer. Honestly even if you for even 50% coverage with a proper deadener you can get better results than 2 or 3 layers of roof sealer. Trust me i tried it in my boot, and it came out 5 min later...
Deadener will lessen road noise, but that is not its purpose at all. Its meant to kill pannel resonance which is usually excited by a bass note.
The kitchen sink is a good example of something that can resonate and a concrete wall is a good example of something that does not. Just go and hit them with your knuckel and you will know what i mean.
But not everything needs to be deadened. Mdf sub boxes and soft plastic pannels dont need to be deadend because the have a very low tendancy to resonate.
The noise from the sink can linger on for a while after you hit it and will benefit from some deadener. The wall on the other hand will sound no different after even 100 layers of deadener.
Go through that link that marlin posted. Loads of info in there.

Re: Sound Deadening Material
I want to use it both for a quiter ride and for better sound in the Jetta, I am sure it will help with some of the squeeks and rattles as well, getting out of the Audi with the B&O Concert System and air tight door seals the Jetta is very noisy and the speakers and radio setup in there is useless. It does not help that I install the head unit and speakers and the bluetooth kit if I can not hear anyone or thay can not hear me.Killerwatt wrote: Mars, what are you trying to accomplish?
