Mk1 Brake bias

Post by irelhard »

Hi guys
If anybody has any knowledge of mk1 brake bias. I took out the whole brake booster. i don`t want the big thing
in front at the engine bay. Looking to do the whole master cylinder inside the car. I see Tilton has some great stuff.
If anyone can help me as to which master cylinder i can use to get correct brake bias. car is stripped, so very light.
or any suggestions
Thanks

I'm running the booster delete mod in my GT, master cylinder directly on the brake pedal and Tilton brake bias to the rear, works very well. Not recommended om stock brakes tho, I'm running big disk conversion in the front and disks in the rear.

Wikus (Viper) on the forum sells a complete front kit - 280mm disks, spacers and pads for just over R2k, you use your existing Citi front calipers, I'm running that at the moment.

Edit to add - here is the link: http://www.vwclub.co.za/phpbb3/viewtopi ... 1&t=154000

I got mine from Piet @ VWTechniques who got it from Norbrake, the adaptor, master cylinder and re-doing all the hard lines cost me R2000.

Including them doing the labour? I read you did it yourself and I'm not that good at DIY specially for brakes! :fear:

Can they do it with the motor in place?

It was about R1k to buy the adaptor and m/c and another R1k for labour to get the lines done. I've done everything except the lines myself, when I started on that it became painfully obvious that I didn't have the patience to carry it through so I had it done. I've seen a couple of Golfs where Piet did it with the motor in place can be done like that...

The brakes are very direct, no sponginess or travel on the pedal. The pedal is quite hard but the harder you step on it, the harder you brake. Much more feel w.r.t what's happening on the road and when the brakes are about to lock up.

Pedal assembly stays the same you just have to mod the rod going through the firewall by cutting off the bracket in the front and rounding the end that goes into the master cylinder...

No, I didn't pay attention when fitting it so I had to turn it around afterwards...

Hey guys ,

Been looking around with no luck . I want to turf the booster but leave the MC in the stock location. I dont have space on the drivers side to mount the MC.

Any ideas ? The darn brakes keeping going from hard to soft , pedal travel is way too much. I have replaced everything and am at my wits end.

Not sure on another location, Have you replaced the the stock hoses with steel braided hoses? They could be expanding with the heat.. Axle nut tight and torque'd to 265nm?
