Will throttles on a 2L 8v ADY engine make a difference?

Post by John »

I've done a 2L 8v conversion from a 1.4i, the 2L 8v has a 272 cam, chip, race-spec branches. will adding bigger throttles enhance the performance in terms of pushing more kilo watts on the wheels? and with acceleration? or what other options do i have to make the car faster in terms of robot to robot racing?

Headwork, 298 cam and standalone management will do a lot, I wouldn't consider a 272 cam 'wild'
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

I think itbs, just fitting a larger single throttle wont make a difference unlees the manifold is modded to accomdate the larger throttle

I agree with Torker. Also, where are you from? I've read that 2.0 8V motors like the 276 cam (good pull and economy), anything bigger than 276 is where the motor really starts coming alive. I've got a 268 in, and can't wait to go bigger.

My car with that setup made 94wkw

Unless you have a dad that loves tuning gotech then nobody else likes to tune it so don't go to gotech unless your tuner loves it. Based on what is most popular that everybody tunes rather use a dicktator.

I also just gave my input. If it was biased i would have told him to use perfect power and that i'm one of only about 3 people that tunes it in jhb.

I actually agree with both of you. Panic said this many times before. Before you go and buy a management system, go to your tuner and find out what system he is good at tuning, as your management will only be as good as your tuner. (ok some systems are worse than others, but generally speaking)

Biggest mistake guys make is by slapping a set of throttles on a motor without doing the supporting mods and thinking that they are going to make a million horsepower. Your engine must have the ability to breath (headwork) and rev (cam) before considering throttles. Vernier pulley in most of the cases is a 'look good' mod without real function, it only contributes something if you have done mods to the motor that throws the cam timing out, like skim the head or deck the block.

VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)
