Golf MK1 1998 carburator

Post by VWKyleVW »

Hi.

I replaced my 1998 Golf MK1 1.6 Carb and I bought it from Goldwagen and my question is right in front of the carb there is a solenoid type thing that has to do with the accelerator (so I think) and then at the back of the carb there is 3 nozzles what are they for? I know the one is for a vacuum that comes from your distributor but I would like to have all of it connected if possible and will it make a difference?

I will post pics if needed.

A soleNoid is an electrical device. There is one on the citi golf( not mk1 if it is '98) and that is at the back of The carb. It is the idle cutoff valve so that the car dies when you switch it off.
The thing in the front is a vacuum actuator which opens rhe 2nd stage of the carburettor. The other nipples are for items like idle up if you have aircon. They are not all used.

Sorry my mistake it is a vacuum you are correct i will post a pic tonight of what i am querying about as well so that i don't get confused ,

There is one more question as well that i want to find out about,

i replaced my old intake manifold with a different one as the old one was leaking all over the show and the idling was not all to good it fluctuated, now with the new one it is still doing it why would that be as there is a new seal/bracket or gasket whatever it is called on with the new carb how can i get this issue solved?

Thanks for all the help

Well it depends on why it was fluctuating in the first place. Some things one cannot diagnose on a forum and needs to be seen. Have you checked ignition timing, plugs, etc.etc.

It was leaking petrol by the manifold and carb so when i looked at the manifold i saw that most of the holes were striped and messed up so i put on a different one and now it is sealed and not leaking or sucking air there but the idling goes up and down, i want to take it in so that the air and fuel can be set in properly.

That unit is the idle-up for aircon.
