Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
Hi Guys!
Just a quick question, I heard the standard branch on the 1.4Velociti is rather good and doesn't need replacing? I am trying to get the most power N/A out of the 1.4i.
Also I heard the best combination is to keep the standard velociti branch and just build a downpipe for it.
Anyone tested this or heard the same?
Thanks!

Good luck bud.TemoMK1 wrote:I am trying to get the most power N/A out of the 1.4i.
Is this for a daily car, or a track day/toy car?

It started out as a daily driver.
BUT after a few tweaks here and there it turned into a toy...

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
What I'm about to say, don't take it up as me being a knob, but I've also learned through this. This will be a long read, so brace yourself.
Well, it all depends on what you want to end up with. All in all, it'll still just be a 1.4i. I had a 50mm stainless steel freeflow (custom built using cowley boxes) and a 38mm 4-2-1 branch. I've also heard that the velo branch works very well, maybe keep it in untill you feel like you want an aftermarket branch on there. Let's quickly do a price breakdown, just to give you an idea on the costs. I also started with a 1.4i, and not wanting to listen to smart people on the forum, I decided to go against their advice of fitting a 2.0, and 'suped up' my beastly 1.4.
This was done a while back, so the costs involved will be higher.
I started off with a branch and freeflow, back then I paid R3000.
I started off with a 276 cam - R1000(got it from a friend)
Dastek UniQ piggyback - R2800 (installed at SAC)
Sportflo replacement filter - R650
Then had to remap my Unichip, because SAC is useless - R650
Then found that the 276 in 1.4 doesn't work very well in a daily up on the highveld, so I swopped it for a smaller cam.
Estas 268 cam - R1200
Vernier pulley - R400
Had my head flowed - R2500 (incl fitment)
Unichip retune - R 650
I was really chuffed with the power, untill I attended a dyno day at Panic's dyno. I pushed out about the same hp as a stock standard 1.8i. But I had way less torque. Moral of the story, go for bigger displacement, then start fiddling with that. You'll be much happier. Believe me. And that's why everyone always says, put in a 2.0 motor if you want more power, as it's the truth.

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
Thanks for the informative reply!
I'm currently in the process of getting me a G5 GTi, so ill be getting the big power from the G5 rather than the Velo. As soon as I get my G5 the Velo is only going to be used as a project. So I'm still tempted to just play around with the tiny engine.
Out of curiosity, what was the most power you got out your 1.4?

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
I got a reading of 76 odd hp and 96Nm torque on Panic's dyno up in Jo'burg. But you should be able to get quite abit more out of it, as you'll be able to run a bigger cam and get away with it. Sea air for the win. Just something to make you think, you say you want to get the big power out of the G5, why not keep the GTI as your daily drive and keep it stock-ish, and go all out on the citi, 2l 16v turbo should get you some really good power, the body is light, and it's your toy. If it breaks, you have your daily, so Bob's your uncle.

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
Psycho, thanks for the info.
I have myself a 14i as well and will be keeping your advice in mind.
If I want good sounding citi, not interested in bigger engine displacement, could I just have the exhaust done without branch or down pipe?

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
You don't need a branch or downpipe to just get a nice sound.
Go to powerflow in Bellville, ask for Roddy, he will sort you out.
You can only get a different box or a full system, what ever your needs are.

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
Hey bud, no sweat. I was just sharing my findings in the route that I took. About the exhaust, I'm pretty sure that by doing just the exhaust, you should be able to get a nice sound from it. I can't really say for sure, as I did my branch and freeflow all at once.Evilsheepclone47 wrote:Psycho, thanks for the info.

For your exhaust needs speak to Amien at Evolution - http://www.evoperformance.co.za/
For any other mods, speak to Theo or Leon at TopEnd racing, http://www.topend.co/
All the modification work on my Golf has been done between the two of them.

Re: Velociti 1.4i Branch Help
Hi guys
i have read this topic and would like to ask a question. I would not like to start a new one as this one is inline with my Q
Does the velociti golf come standard with a 4 in 1 branch or is that aftermarket?
Thanks
