Youre one hundred percent correct. If i look through your thread you clearly know your stuff. 30k is too little for all that has to be done properly perhaps.
But i bet people said why not buy an m3 and work from there if you wanna slap amgs and m3's etc.
Driving one of the fastest ibizas around must be farking epic. Thats probably the same reason he wants to go turbo... for the thrill of the build and for making something yourself...
All im saying is there is tons of knowlege to be had, why not just share it with him :)

Ok here's a idea if u really in it for the thrill. Dunno if it will work though.
See if you can squeeze a G5 motor in there do some mods to make it fit then throw in a polo gti gearbox, pgti breaks, petrol pump and exhaust and u might be on your way.

Find a written off G4/pgti, then transplant everything, or stay n/a and strip all extras. It won't get the power, but u will feel the speed

Hi guys

I think this guys aim is achievable.

HOWEVER, not a turbo conversion.
An abf motor with throttles and tuning should cost about 20k.
It would definitely be better to buy a gti but for some reason if the guy really wants to build something it's should be an interesting build. The chap will still have change for brakes and a clutch.

Respect for trying to be different man!
As seen in the second video that SemiColon posted, they were able to get 195Horses out of that 1.6 with the Nascarchips turbo conversion.. I don't know whats going on though because its all in Portuguese  But at least we all know its possible to get 195HP (Which should be 140 odd KW) out of a 1.6! The only problem is, I have no idea how much it would cost you, what turbo you need and where you can get it done  I have tried researching Polo2.0 Turbo conversions for interest sake and all I found was one video! Perhaps you will have to try things the old fashion way and use email  I like the idea of the sleeper tho!

Although! As some have said, the reliability won't be great or at least not as great as a car that comes stock with a turbo  Good luck with this though!

the HP aim is not impossible. I have had a couple of close to 190 hp unos over my dyno and that is only a little 1.4 8v. So yes totally possible. BUT this is the kicker. You do not find any aftermarket tuning bits for THAT engine ie. not readily available CR drop pistons, not a readily cast manifold etc.etc. so you WILL have to custom make EVRYTHING. you will have to trial and error with pistons to get the CR down etc etc. So yes no problem on the Can it be done part. The problem is the R30k bit. That little affair will run you much much closer to R60k. N/A there is absolutelty no way you'll take that engine there.

I would keep it as a daily and buy a ready built mk1 turbo like Chris is selling that you can play with

Guys so if he does get hold of the motor, fitting it i dont think it will be a problem, but running the motor is it easy? or an after market management system is required? *just interested*

If I may offer some advice.

Trade in the 1.6 on a PGTI.
Remove GTI badging and replace with 1.6 badging.

Will be the best mod you ever did.

ps. Listen to the guys telling to not try modding the 1.6 to turbo, they know what they are talking about.

Think a 911T motor in the boot is a better idea, then you can convert it to RWD, the drivetrain from a Beetle should bolt right into the Polo with no modifications :driving:
