Hi guys!

Friend of mine looking at a G5 GTI but its a 2005 model. So I know it will be the AXX motor.

They seem to be a bit detuned compared to the BWA, but what other differences are there? Any flaws in the motor? Can one tune and mod the AXX like the BWA?
What about the DSG models? Did these models have LC? Can it be rectified with DSG software?

gearbox issues?

earlier dsg's didnt come out with paddle shift i think..

Mileage is around 98k and thats good for a 2005 model...

Just not sure what these models don't have that came out in the later models...

So there is no paddle shift on the 2005 models?

AXX has higher compression due to different pistons, BWA made more power because of software.

AXX ends up making more power after mods/software.

I did use that function... And I found that the compression ratio, cams and hpfp are different and revised in the BWA.

The main concern is that can one tune them to make power? Do the same mods as one does to a BWA and still have a reliable car? One would possibly have to look at upgraded cam and hpfp?

And then I have heard the older DSG models didn't have Launch Control. And now I hear they didn't have the pedals behind the steering wheel? Anyone that can confirm this?

I read the early AXX came out with the "A" revision cam and when this got chowed by the follower they changed it to the "B"..

But if you look up the codes for the cams....

Maybe VW discontinued the older gen cams? They are no longer available? Hence they changed the part number? Dunno...

Rather look for a BWA.... there are so many around and you can find serious bargains if you're patient and shop around.
