Best place to get a better/bigger intercooler fitted???

Post by Donnie Darko »

I am playing with the idea of putting a bigger cooler on the GTI cos it has its stock one on apparently.
Where would be the best place to take it to get it done? Aprox pricing for this exercise?

If you can get an S3 metal-tank cooler you'll see some decent improvements, and some of the local forum guys can help out with the installation for a reasonable price...

Or you could look into the twincooler options, which could even be DIY.

Why do you want to upgrade the cooler? Running software? IAT's to high? I still have the standard cooler on the car and car still goes fine.

If you knew what your IATs were like, you wouldn't ask this ;)

Seriously dude I know what they are, I don't drive my car hard or to far thus I posed what were his exact needs? Is he planning on going BT later blah, blah, blah. If one does not know why he needs it and for what purpose can't give him the best advice. I'm just saying . . .

OK, fair enough.
I find that even with gentle driving, IATs with the S3 cooler are considerably cooler than with the original cooler. Once the original cooler got heatsoaked it took ages for it to cool down again. The new cooler takes a minute or two.

Any stage 2 car in this country needs a fmic upgrade. You will be fine for the first few runs then that thin little gti cooler gets heatsoaked and the car starts pulling timing and there goes your power. Even a stock GTI would do well with an s3 cooler upgrade.

mk5 gti cooler vs s3 cooler....
