Audi s3 1.8t amk engine with T28 turbo

Post by Rudi46 »

Hi guys,

Could you help me with this. I bought the audi with a cracked Ko4 turbo and they gave me a T28 with manifold with brand new.
What would be needed software wise to be done here.
Can the ecu be tuned to accommodate the turbo and still keep it at standard boost or just a bit more.
Like say a stage 2 map.

The turbo is mounted, only need to do the dp and oil and water lines tot the turbo. also Fitted with a fmc.
Exhaust is a full wildcat system.

any help would do. Would rather go ko4 again, but I have the turbo so finding out if it can be done.

Thanx

It would need a full-on custom map done for that turbo.
The K04 and T28 have very very different characteristics and the K04 map will not work properly.

That was what I was thinking, Where would one go for a total remap?

Nothing to be scared off, was just asking, the GT28 reps are very laggy, although I still made 220wkw with it.

The crank in the housing does not look too bad, ive seen worse on KO4's and then they still boost fine. How does ur exhaust manifold look?

I think it might be a TB28, will see what Rudi says.
Def not garret. No markings on boost housing.

Thanx for the help, Got a few Q for you about the engine bay. Will ask in time.

It sits to the back. So not top or bottom.
Only got the car last night. Will take pics and post them on a rides thread.

Did even see the mani until you asked about it. Luckily was still in car from last night. But it's gone. So have to go with the t28.

Just thinking out loud here, but I dont see it being a huge issue running a slightly different turbo.
Im not saying slap a huge t3/t4 on a k03 map, just something a little bigger. Say for instance a t3s60 on a k04-2x map. Say its an agressive map and the k04 tapers off from requested boost in the higher rpm. Now if you bolt up the t3 and meet the requested boost would you really need a complete remap? The management is smart enough to control the boost on the new turbo. The timing advance and fueling is dependant on the motor, so that should remain the same right? So why not?

Well that would depend, how far you would want to go in future as well interms of power. Have you driven in a proper mapped k04? if so are you satisfied with the drivability and power delivery of k04. If yes then stick to K04 and replace yours, if no then go the t28 route, your stock map will be usable as a "drive around" file provided your boost doesnt overshoot its stock target, all your electronic components are working correctly and you still have stock injectors.

Also the above mentioned companies can assist with a custom map on your stock motronic ECU.
So i can drive it with the t28 and the standard map. That would help allot when i want to take it for software.

Yes, it "should" be able to drive with MINIMAL boost and long as injectors remain the same, once injectors are changed you will need the spec sheet to dial them into the software... Would recommend you get it mapped to your setup ASAP thou.
Thanx for the help, will do it as soon as possible.
