G5 GTi cuting out

Hi Guys

My car started acting wierd yesterday like the engine would loose power for a second then go again this happend mostly when trying to pull away from a robot car would die then go but this does not happen all the time its a bit random
If I stop on the roadside car idles ok the needle will dip a bit then go back to 900rpm but car doesn't stall or anything

Check your coil packs or PCV..

Get hold of someone with vcds/ vagcom. Look out for "Evap emissions control", that is related to the pcv valve. Good news if it is a faulty pcv is that they cost around R400 and very easy to replace yourself.

Doudt its pcv that will create high idle.
Coils will missfire cont. Or under load.
Maybe check for errors and log the rear and front pressure with air mass reading.

PCV will throw idle control errors and possibly boost not reached errors.

How are the spark plugs?

Check plugs first then Coil packs

the problem is very random
did some testing on sat but had to drive around for an hour before i could reproduce the error

When I popped my number 4 coilpack on the mk5 the car had an idle like a citi golf with 288* cam and it made a clicking sound like a tazer when it came into boost.

The mk5's can be very temperamental sometimes regarding older diaphragm dv's, fuelcuts under wot, cam followers being eaten through, pcv valve shot and causing lumpy idle performance loss higher fuel and oil consumption.
