Performance modifications 9n3 Polo 1.6
A buddy told me putting a down pipe on my polo 1.6 will enhance my performance. Is this true? And is it worth it?

Re: Down Pipe on Polo 1.6
Welcome PoloVDub!
I highly doubt it will benefit that much without software. Even with software the expected gains will not be more than a couple of kw's.
Having said that, I am looking into doing a decat on the SO's 1.6 Comfortline as I suspect the cat may be blocked as the fuel consumption has gone up a bit recently.
Cheers Marco.

A uni-Q or other management will help the performance more though...
Visit exhaust shops and get some advice, but a decat does help

Re: Down Pipe on Polo 1.6
welcome to the forum bud.
which polo is it? A branch manifold will help a little but it's not gona be a huge difference.
Also i can never justify putting a chip on a stock naturally aspirated motor, the gains are minimal.
decat would not be a night and day difference either but its cheap as chips, so go ahead and do it.

Re: Down Pipe on Polo 1.6
The 1.6 only had the one Lamda before the Cat .. so removing the Cat doesn't effect the readings or give any errors. Did it on my Seat Ibiza 2.0 when it had all of 2000km on ....
R3000 for a decent branch + R2000 for Chip + R1000 for mapping + R2-3000 for a free flow = +- 5-8 Hp ...

Re: Down Pipe on Polo 1.6
Decat gave me all of 2HP and I still believe that was due to to the car running hotter and less friction in the gearbox after heating up properly.
But saying that it was on a basicly new Cat.. a blocked one might see you picking up more.

I have the Polo 1.6 2007 model. I want to up the performance on it but low on cash so I would have to do upgrades that aren't going to make a big dent in my pocket. Anything else u can suggest that I can do.

Besides the decat, you can also remove the air intake snorkels inside the airbox. The airbox is the huge engine cover.PoloVDub wrote:I have the Polo 1.6 2007 model. MeanTdi wrote:Yes, that is the restrictor found on the inside just before the air filter - slips out easily once you have opened up the airbox. There is another one at the mouth of the inlet (bottom right of the engine cover if you are looking in the engine bay) that needs some force to remove once you have opened up the airbox.SemiColon wrote:Here is a few pics of the Restrictor, im WAY to lazy to remove and open the airboxshaheemo wrote:Gents i removed the top cover and opened the airbox. Hope this helps: *its attached to the box, just look for it, it slides out.

Agreed on saving for a faster car. I have an 06 1.6 Polo. Besides cosmetics - and removing the air filter restricter, that engine will stay as it is. Ask Echo03 on this forum just how much software and a freflow makes a difference.
With regards to the decat - I may remove mine, too. It's like R150 or so at some places.

Re: Down Pipe on Polo 1.6
I did a de-cat, removed the restrictor thingy and my mind went nuts with thoughts of putting a vr/abf/2.0 motor in there and at the end the maths didnt add up! Best thing if u want perfomance out of a polo 1.6 is to sell it and get a Ptdi Or PGti.
