fuel tank issues :(

Post by BioniC187 »

Hey all,
i have a 1.4i citi golf. And i recently discovered a crack on the fuel tank. I visited a few scrap yards, but none seem to have the tank i have (number of pipes, placement of pipes). Saw about 8 golfs, and all diff tanks. So i was wondering if i have the correct tank? ie. a tank that has not been modified, coz i thought mine was standard, unless i'm wrong and it has been modified somehow.
I have a fuel pump outside the fuel tank, its connected to the fuel tank via a short hose. Does this sound correct? or should i take a pic and upload so someone can verify it for me?
Thanks guys

Yes. Sounds right. Mp9 golfs have extenal pump. The pump itself has a small return. They cost between 500-700 bux

As stated you need a fuel tank from an MP9 citi.
1.4 to 1.8 Mp9 citi golfs all have the same tank.

Post in the wanted section and im sure someone will have one laying around

Yeah, second hand tanks are about 700. I just can't seem to locate one. I may have to drop the tank myself and take it to a radiator shop to weld it for me- I got a quote for 350 to weld, but i wanted to change the tank coz i saw a lota dents on the tank while i was under the car. I'm new to golfs, :hi: , so i really don't know what an mp9 golf is! but i have been reading here and i am learning more about golfs  . How do i know if i have an mp9 or some other type of tank? So, if i go to a scrapyard, how can i spot an mp9 golf?
I will take a pic, but its frikkin raining here, so maybe later when the rain stops lol

If the golf is a stock 1.4i then it has MP9. What area are you located in?

Check gumtree and junkmail bud, I found a couple of tanks on gumtree a 2 weeks back, as far as I know a carb tank should also work as you have an external fuel pump. Does your tank look like this?

Yeah sure, i was planning on doing that, but i was just gonna sneak in at an event, and be like "hey whats happening!" haha. Ok i shall give him a call today.
@klippie, It is not the same, The main inlet filler pipe is towards the right hand side of the car, and it has the outlet pipe to the fuel pump on the right hand side of the tank ( same side as filler inlet) and the outlet is towards the front of the car from the side view. And that hole on the top of the tank is towards the right of my car aswell. I was getting a bit worried, coz i saw quite a few other tanks in a scrap yard and some looked the same except for the outlet pipe to the fuel pump. But i'll check around on gumtree like you suggested. And i noticed that my gauge is not reading correctly now, the need was not even near the red marking and i hear jerk jerk, coz the fuel was low! filled 100 and it was running fine after. Thanks okes, i'll visit at an event soon enough, need to get this thing sorted first

Hmmm, you guys think i can get another tank that looks similar and make it work here? coz i need, Main inlet pipe, Outlet pipe to fuel pump, and feed back line? Is that it? and the gauge opening but leave that out as all tanks have that in common i guess

Oh yes, it is very much the same, just the position of the outlet pipe looks slightly off i think :? I'm sorry my ignorance at this stage may be annoying, but that looks like its the one. Thanks for clarifying :)

Just get the fuel injection (mp9) thank. guys will know what you talking about at a scrapyard. I paid 500 for mine months back from a scrapyard in phoenix. I just said 'I want a velociti fuel tank'. The only difference will you notice is the oulet pipe for the fuel pump. Carb tank doesnt have that.

good day the problem im sitting with is ive got a 1.4i fuel pump on my golf mk1, I installed a 2.0ltr ady motor and I think ive got fuel starvasion problem, at times the pump gets so hot then it makes a funny noise almost like its running dry(external fuel pump) then, there is where my problem comes in, the car starts jerking and losses alot of power, someone told me maybe its the fuel rail that's broken inside(im no machcanic so I wont say no to advise :???: )and he also suggested that maybe we should get a fuel filter with regulator on for back pressure if its the fuel rail that's broken(I was thinking put on the caravelle 5bar fuel pump but I don't know) any advise pls vdub brothers u can also whatsapp me with your input on 0634976262
