Official 6R Polo GTI thread
So i started this thread in the hope that 6R drivers can post any issues, questions and just general chat relating to their car. A good place for all to share information...
Also for the 6R owners to get to know eachother as there are a few of us around and organise a few meetups etc..
Lets hope it works.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
So as requested I will now list links to related topics/issues to make life easier for us all. Send me the link and I will add it here.
1.Cost per service interval
2. Oil type
3. Changing Bulbs on the 6R Polo
4. Lowering springs for the 6R
5. Spark Plugs
6. Disable Halogen DRL

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
I love my 6R Gti... absolutely brilliant.
One issue, I noticed that if the road is slightly bumpy she changes gear by herself, even in manual mode...
but yeah, mostly a brilliant machine, performance, economy, looks, luxury, it's the whole package!

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
Had water pump replaced at 2000km due to magnetic clutch packing up.
Loss of mid range power every now again. Seems to have sorta it's self out.
Front brake pads replaced a 30k service, front tyres replaced at 30k.
Fair oil consumpsion +- 1L between services.
So far no other problems on the car. Have 32000km on the clock.

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
Good feedback so far, thanks guys...
The only issue is that noisy gearbox, especially low speeds over bumps and also when changing manually...
After the dyno run this weekend i found that when driving in manual and stopping, when i pull of there is a delay in the acceleration response, so fokal happens and then she pulls/jerks forwards... i think i need to log and see if any issues.. so that means VAGCOM and software is needed...
But overall i love the car

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
Done 9700km thus far with only an indicator bulb needing replacement.
Topped up 500ml oil at 4000km and again at 9500km. Should hold me till my first service.
Took the car to the dealer to have it auto lock the doors when I start driving and also have only the driver's door unlock when pressing the unlock button on the key.
All in all very happy with the car.

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
Happy with mine. It's used 1L of oil in 8600kms. Still going well. I do have that "Clutch rattle" over speed bumps, as well as the "Jerk" Which is slightly annoying, but I think its a DSG Software issue that will hopefully be resolved by an update. It feels almost like a delay, waiting for some clutch "Slip" and then suddenly the complete release of the clutch. But yeah, slightly annoying in traffic.
Another issue I have is this DAMN indicator bulb thats playing mind games with me.....it gives the bulb out error on the dash and the relay flashes overtime, but on the outside of the car ALL the lights are working as they should.
Not sure if you guys know, but the 6R GTI, like alot of the new "sporty" cars (Including the new M5) has a "sound generator" to reproduce the engine note inside the cabin, by vibrating against the windscreen. Which I think is a little lame, so I dissconnected mine. DAMN the Car is DEAD Quiet now. Too quiet in fact and when you give it the beans it sounds like the 1.4 it is..... So I think I'll be putting it back in.......

Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
I only notice the clutch rattle with the driver's side window is down. All windows closed and I cannot hear it at all.
The jerk in slow moving traffic only happens when going up or down hill for me. Seems to be the hill hold assist but not sure. I have to agree though that driving the DSG in traffic is no fun.
I see you also found the sound actuator info. Leave it connected as ye the 1.4 does not sound all that great without it.
Any idea if it is possible to switch the park lights off in the front via VAGCOM? Find it quite pointless running with the dipped main beams as part of the daylight running lights setup.

I've been through just about ALL the settings in VAG com and there seems to be no way to put the DRL off. The only thing you can do is switch the taillights and numberplate light off when the DRL's are on.....what I do somethimes is just put the park lights on then the DRL's are off.....

Hi Larry, just out of curiosity, how do you disconnect it?Larry wrote:Not sure if you guys know, but the 6R GTI, like alot of the new "sporty" cars (Including the new M5) has a "sound generator" to reproduce the engine note inside the cabin, by vibrating against the windscreen. I permanently drive with my parking lights on... it solves the hassle of the dash getting darker if it's slightly cloudy or I drive into a building, that got annoying quickly...

Just to check, the default DRL setup is taillights, numberplate lights, dipped beam and park lights? Wonder why the parks must be on as the dipped beam should be enough. Re: Official 6R Polo GTI thread
There is a way to manually switch off DRL's on the mk6's dont know if it will work for the polos:
Key in ignition, but off, no lights on dash. Push flicker stalk down (left turn) pull back for brights, keep it there and turn key to on position.
Wait for one beep and switch off.
To turn them back on same procedure just flicker stalk up(right turn)
See if that works. Works on the mk6.

Thanks Gansnek. They actually have that procedure in the manual but for the life of me I cannot get it to work. Think I will try it again tonight with the updated VW software Revo loaded.Gansnek wrote:There is a way to manually switch off DRL's on the mk6's dont know if it will work for the polos:
