When I bought my white Velo new in 2005 they all had a problem with the rubber seal on the filler cap, causing a nice petrol stain under the filler opening. VW offered me a respray of the affected area when the car went for its 1st service, I declined because I was more concerned with the quality of the potential spray work than the stain. The stain faded over the next few months and eventually disappeared altogether with regular washing and polishing.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

Depending on how bad the stain is, it could be polished out?

Use menzerna powergloss or PO85 with a white flexi cutting pad - will take about 3-4 attempts but does get out eventually

Detailed a porsche this weekend that had NF stains on the paint - Removed them all sucessfully.

Removed NF Ultra from my buddies RS3 with Menzerna P085. Was quite a bad spill too. It also depends on if the stain was left there for a prolonged period of time.

Both the porsche and rs3 i worked on had the stain for a week at max before i got to it. I suppose the longer its left, the more damage it will do
