I don't like the idea of putting the breather oil back into the sump. It seems to have lotts of water condernsation in it in my case so I rather just chuck it away.

Mind you I have not done it in over 2 years seeing as the Jetta now hardly breathes at all.

My catch can got two inlets, one from the tappet cover and one from the block and a breather filter on top. When I empty it out it's about 90% water and very little oil.

Thats good news!!! If you find lots of oil and not too much water your engine is no so happy OR, like me you have forged pistons that shrink when cold :-(

This is what i did, works 100%, no more dirt and carbon blocking injectors and my valves remain nice and clean as well as the combustion chambers. As said, these tend to build up lots of condensation water, i drain like 50ml a week, so dont make it run back to the sump.

I've always wondered is it really necessary to have an oil catch can, can't you just run a pipe and let it get expelled out of the engine bay? Since the oil is not used again why do you need to collect it again, and I don't think its enough to cause an oil spill on the road.

If it is possible do you still need a filter since no air is being sucked in the motor only expelled?

It'll blow up all under your car, onto the tyres and up on the rear of the car... SUX big time! and it usually comes out while running as smoke and once it colls down goes sludgy and sticky - no, messy like a diesel!!!

you dont need a specific catch can, a coke bottel will do just fine as well, it just looks better when you have a billety piece in the engine bay. Yes you can just put a pipe, but not adviced, on a daily drive it will spill oil all over your and your friends driveways, so you will be parking outside when you come and visit me and on the track not allowed at all.

u can get from mr turbo and i think volkspares... and u cant connect it to the turbo return line its for breather fumes not actually for the used oil. Ur motor has to have a block breather as well, usually front of the block. That and tappet breather go into the catch can, breather filter on top, roberts ur mothers uncle...
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

You need the block breather as well, otherwise high crank case pressures will cause seeping seals and push the dipstck out (along with some oil). I don't know how advisable it is to T the breather pipe into your oil return line, you might get a lot of oil getting blown into the catch can.

My GT catch can, quite a big one, bought it from Volkspares for R750, added a baffle and changed the filter on top. The baffle is basically a 25mm alu tube going three quarters down the inside of the can with the filter on top. This provide a longer path for the fumes and more time for the solids to condense out.

This is my catch can i got from Max Motor Sport

as you can see i just connected one pipe from the tappet cover to the catch can....
ontop of the catch can there is a screw on lid which im going to put a filter/breather...

do i really need to run a breather pipe to the crank casing as it will be breathing through the catch tank filter... IMO there wont be any pressure build up... correct me if im wrong...
