Knife edge crank

Post by Naku786 »

:hi:

What does this mean? I hear alot of guys talking about it & also the TDi crank conversion.

Whats the benefit of it & what application is it intended? (Track car, drag car, daily)

Thanks :driving:

The stroke on a TDi crank is 95.5mm, larger than a std 2.0 crank's 92.8mm so it will give you slightly larger dispacement.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)

Knife edging is something different where they take metal of the crank - makes it lighter and more aerodynamic so it should make your engine rev up quicker. You can see the taper on the counter weights on the crank in the photo - that's knife edging:

Will this decrease the amount of torque(nm) the car produces?

As far as my research goes, its not recommended for a daily. Also according to the Mythbusters thread the TDI crank eats bearings on a normal 2l.
If not done correctly you could end up with a lot of damage.
Speed is money......how fast do you want to go?
