Re: That new leather smell...
Pimped from a Volvo Forum:
"A rather important note on the "new leather" smell of cars, when they are actually new.
That "new leather" smell is not the actual smell of the leather. Car manufacturer's use specifically designed aromatic oils to produce that smell (they each pretty much have their own). When the leather for the car is made is is processed in a way that actually does everything they can to remove the actual real leather smell, so that it can then be scented the way the manufacturer wants.
So, most likely the smell you are after is actually a false leather smell. Most likely the aromatic oils they use will not be made to the public, to help safeguard anyone copying their specifically formulated oils, so you will be left with locating a generic aromatic oil.
Some upholster's can do what you want, but you will have to look around. I believe they call this technique "re-tanning" the leather, which simply means they will sorta of refinish the leather you have, including the new application of the aromatic oils. This can cause an oily surface for awhile though, basically because the smell is produced and maintained the longest by using oils.
So, I expect your best bet for the proper application and effect is to look for an upholster that can do it, someone who does alot of leather. Possibly even saddle shops, cobblers, or thos who specialize in home furnishings (especially leather couches and chairs). There may be a good chance that they can do what you want, and possibly even let you test out the oils they use to see if they produce the aroma you want. Different shops may use different oils also.
