2.0 8v Turbo Kit "STARTER PACK" lol
Hi guys what are your opinions on the following kit to start off with.As far as I can see all you would need is a spacer and management.

Re: 2.0 8v Turbo Kit "STARTER PACK" lol
From what I understand is that this is a universal kit. I'm not sure as I can't see any pic's but I would be sceptical of tha quality of the parts used and also murphy dictates that something that sould fit easily on a number of diffrent cars wil never ever fit easy on yours.

Re: 2.0 8v Turbo Kit "STARTER PACK" lol
Search on all the forums you can and see what quality those ebay turbo's are.
Some last for quite a while, while others will pack up as sson as you leave your driveway.
"As far as I can see all you would need is a spacer and management."
Um, no. Going the turbo route will be much more involved than that. Many of us here have paid plenty school fees with regards to that.
US$595 may seem like a good price, but add on shipping costs, import duties, taxes, etc.
And the distinct possibilty that you will have to have the turbo looked at and checked or even replaced within a few hundred km.

Get it for sure. Yup all you need is a spacer plate and a different management. Some guys even say you can use MP9 for it - just get it mapped.

Re: 2.0 8v Turbo Kit "STARTER PACK" lol
Couldn't you just but this kit and then replace actual turbo with a decent T3/T4 etc?
That way you get all the other SH!T To complete with a decent turbo for about 10K?

If you need to start swopping stuff out already then why buy a 'kit' in the first place. Oh yes - I don't see any ol supply or return to sump bits there iether so you'll need that too.

When i see universal, it means it was mass produced to accommodate a variety of setups which means costs were cut

Hi Polo Playa
That is what I said go with the other kits from Top Street and the Turbonectics variety. Which is what I am going for. Those kits come with all the stuff specifically for your car. This maybe the cheaper route but it will cost more in the long run. I did my research before choosing my kit.
Thanks
Brat

And no wastegate (the turbo doesn't seem to have an internal WG either).panic-mechanic wrote:I don't see any ol supply or return to sump bits there iether so you'll need that too.
No injectors.
Downpipe needs to be made according to the car it is fitted to ($$$$$$$)
Silicone hose looks to be very thin, so probably won't hold decent boost pressure.
Naaa, rather buy bits from here in SA than buy that kit, thanks.

I think TDi was put there as the manifold supplied with the turbo will bolt onto the TDi head, no other thought was put into whether the Turbo will be suitable for the car etc.Neuk wrote:poloplayaWP wrote:[quote="NeukI am confused, what engine is this for?Aaaah makes much more sense now, but I fail to see how it will be suitable for the 1.9 TDi...For VW 8v SOHC engines....like 2E,AGY,AGG,AFW and so on.

Re: 2.0 8v Turbo Kit "STARTER PACK" lol
These advertisers are very clever.
You see nice picture. You buy the kit off them for $595-00. Add exchange rate + import taxes, lets say R5000 to R6000. You get kit, but still need a few parts. Its too expensive to send the stuff back and do the paperwork or even fly there and give them a piece of your mind. So, in for a penny, in for a pound, you stick it out. You drive a iffy turbo car, with repairs and alterations costing you a bundle.
As has been said so many times before, you have to have deep pockets for building a turbo car. There are no shortcuts, either do it properly or don't, no half measures.

That sure ain't universal, no volumetric efficiencies or cfm were taken into consideration when designing the setup for all those vastly different type of motors. Trust me, that setup will not work well at all on any of the specified motors. Plot the points on the compressor map and see what u get...SURGE!!!
