I've always said people shouldn't assume the agents are always going to be the most expensive. When I built my race golf 70% of the part were bought from LS East Rand Mall as they'd often be cheaper than goldwagen and others.

Call Autozone also, i phoned around a while back and Autozone (CPT) (bellville) was the cheapest for Gabriel's think R600 for front both. Just make sure again.

Ian Glass shocks for Mk1

Front R695 each
Rear R410 each

I see that Monroe has a GT shock on the internet, made for drop kits, but not sure if this is available in SA.

Also normal shocks don't carry warranty if Lowering kit was used.

I'm dissapointed in GW. I have found that the VW agents are cheaper more oftem then not.
You think those shocks are pricey,? Then buy KONI Sport shocks, they are more than worth every sent though.

I still dont understand why the cars original shocks last over ten years, then once you replace them they last 10 seconds

Sure enough that is a good price from the agents, but dont forget its going to cost you at least around R200 for alignment, and if you fitting it yourself and have the right tools you will be safe.
But add another R300 odd for fitment if not fitting yourself.

So total will be R1 460 without fitment and R1760 with.

In my honest opinion I would go to Jacks Tyres dude and save myself the trouble of fitting it.

Also you might consider getting new shock mounts and bump stops.

Don't worry. Fitment is easy, And I can get discount on this from the agents in any case through a friend. I also have a contact that can do the alignment for next to nothing. Shock mounts was replaced a few months ago already.

I remember when I still had my Life Golf, I ahd new shock put on at Supa quick, the car was no longer low, it was weirdly standing like a 4x4. I then got shocks from VW at a couple of R's cheaper than with them, they refunded me and I just paid for fitting.

Apparently the Life and Velocity has a special made up shock just made for VW themselves, don't know how true it is though.
