Post by Vis »

I had my 4spd box shortend. They swapd out the 3.94 diff for a 4.25 dropd my 400m time by .400sec. Until suming in box broke. Wana split box and c what kaked. But its magic!!! Topend is only like 150km/h @ 6krpm in 4th. Saw a 4.7 straight cut diff at sponsor, but it 4 a 5spd.

I know this doesn't help you AT ALL, but both Quaiffe and Peloquin make a 4.11 LS diff. They are awesome, but illegal for you, unfortunately. Well, that, and the R10k price.

Is there a way to upgrade your stock diff without getting a new LS diff?
I am planning on using a FFZ box on my 2.0l ADY, have a older 4spd box at home, any suggsetions as to wheather i can maybe combine the gears of these two boxes? Dont know the code of the older 4spd box though.

Back in the day at illegal race meet i saw some 1.4i mk1's taking on 2.0l mk1's, what they did was spend a fairly small amount of money on the motors and then a crapload on the gearboxes, they run out of revs in 5th gear at round +/- 140km/h, no top end at all, but they are really potent for shorter sprints.

I take it you need the diff for track use? I used my stock FFZ box before on a local track in nam, however a bud of mine had a box build by ferroli's in CT, if you are intrested i can maybe hook up the two of you?

shot for the replies guys

Currently running a 3.9 ffz as i mentioned , with custom gear ratios, @ wit everything sorted on that end
Before the 4,2 diff was permitted it was essential to put a shorter 3rd on the 3.9 ffz setup, this was the standard setupd acheilies heel

i am looking for the 4.2 as at especially kyalami the shoter ratio box pulls car lengths over the 3.9 in nashua 1 and 2 and out of clubhouse, around zwartkops there is little difference between the two, but again at kyalami the difference it too great

@ Goof - will phone motorsport and find out, they would be cheaper in any event

IDG in Pretoria has an absolutely HUGE selection of gearbox spares for the 020 gearboxes. Try them.

When I was racing bought both 4.2 and 3.9 from VW Racing. First went 3.9 and then 4.2.....
