Gti V rear apron colour coding...finally!

Finally got some time to find a place to colour code my rear apron on the Gti :) Could not live with that big black bumper so I took it off and it is now being sprayed! I got quoted R950 by Master Panelbeaters (CPT) which I think is very reasonable.

Bought some mudflaps as well to keep the bottom black colour scheme/flow from the side the same. Looks funny from the side if the rear bumper is colour coded

Can't wait to get it back!

Hopefully it will look like this...just silver with mudflaps

Can't wait to get the apron back! Going to look awesome.

I think they probably intented to do it but the high manufacturing costs of the Golf 5 forced them to cut costs :)

It can be removed but I use it too often for the mountain bikes :) Family hot hatch

Hi, I'm thinking of doing mine as well, but the side skirts as well, plus part of the front. Do you think it will be double your cost?

How long did it take them to do your bumper?

No idea, took about a day and a half. Will most likely be more than double.

I got quoted R5000 at one place and R2000 at another!

Seems like if you take it off yourself then it is much cheaper (30min to 45min job)

would be better to strip and fit it yourself as panelbeaters charge for that along with labour!
why not take it to maldino? if you take it off yourself I cant see this costing more than R1000

Thanks... ;)

Have a look at R32 rear conversion on VW VORTEX I saw there how they removed the rear skirt to fit the new R32 one, I know you dont wanna fit a R32 rear but its the same to remove the rear skirt. You have to lie down though where the backbox is and you'll see a few screws. But have a look on vortex first

Agreed! not difficult to remove, its fitting it on that is a hussle, especially when you need to gently force it into place. If you not careful, before the spiderweb effect on the paint since it is plastic and prone to bending!!!

Nice!
You coming to the dynoday tomorrow?

Very easy as mentioned! Much easier than the A3 :)

1. Loosen 2 bolts on each light - remove
2. You will see 2 bolts holding the bumper in place - remove
3. Remove 4 screws in each wheel arch holding bumper on
4. Remove 2 screas at bottom of bumper
5. Pull entire off slowly - it sits on rails on the side
6. Remove clips right on the edge holding top and bottom part of bumper in place
7. Carefully lift clips to release bottom part of bumper

To reinstall is ease, clips slide in relatively easy but as mentioned check not to bend the bumper too much while trying to push the bottom part back on again :)

Yes I'll try and come around tomorrow. Don't think I'll pull my car up as I did not change anything since the last dyno.

Hi, my side sills cost the same each as front/back so if you want to do front/back and sills you looking @ 4x the cost

How do you stop your bumper & side skirts from peeling due to stones being kicked up by the tyres? I had a look at my side skirts behind the front wheels and they have a LOT of wear from stones flying up!
