Rod to Cable Shift Converstion MK2

Post by BADBOY »

Hey guys,

I managed to source a Polo TDI 02R(75kw) 5 speed box with cables selectors,Flywheel, clutch.

What is still needed are the Seat Hydro/Cable coverstion which my buddy is trying to source from VW. and then the box will be slotted in

I need advise on the gearbox mounting bracket on the gearbox end as it differs from a 020 box. I was told Topsport make these brackets and I was also told a VR6 bracket will work.

Anybody had experience doing this on a MkII and could share some info?

IM blushing now - thanks Pornoster!!!
:)

You will have to source a 2L 16v Gearbox mount. I know that mount will work with the Vr6 box (02A) the mk4 gti box (02J) and the mk5 FSI box (02S). I am 100% certain about these because i have fitted/know of someone who has fitted these boxes using that mount.

As for the polo box - i can not say for sure!
But i reckon it should work - i mean the 2L 16v mounting.

they are R1200 or so from VW...then you still need a cable to be made up.

That he did. But, he used a 02j gearbox (from the Golf 4 GTI). The question here is whether or not the TDI box can use the 2L 16v mounting or not.

@ bru-tom.

Speak to Viper @ DRD. They make for the mk1 and might be able to assist you to make one fir the mk2 platform.

Worst case, fabricate your own.

Thank you for the response papa.

All the dudes from abroad use the g60 mount, but it’s not available locally. I can fab something up if I can’t find anything at my local wrecker or modify what I can find. It’s mainly the length of the mounts that differ, will get see what’s what once I have the box bolted up to the motor and see what I have to work with.

Was hoping there was an off the shelf part that most have used over the years...

Thanks again

@ bru-tom

Your best bet is to give Wikus (@viper) at Goldwagen Delarey a call, if he doesn't have it on the shelf, he has the capacity to make one, if required. He couriers all over SA as well.

thank you Anton.

I was hoping to find something OEM locally as my pocket is already hurting from the parts sourcing to date :fear:

I have no problem fabbing something, just wanted something easier

Fair comment, bottomless pit, but seeing as the original thread is over 10 years old, your prospects of an over the counter solution in 2019 might be somewhat difficult.

Wikus runs a Caddy bakkie where he has poured tons of R&D into. He is probably your best prospect for advice or a solution.

Have a look a VR6 rear mount.
Friend of mine in Aus used it on a MK3 GTI when he fitted a cable shift box.

Any luck with the sourcing of a mounting??

Do you have any mock up dimensions and possible pictures to show the installation for reference to help identify what mounting would be the best fit?
