On Friday 13 Sept I got stuck next to the r21 northbound from airport in a friends' 320d.Turns out according to bmw that the turbos impeller broke.Reason:Something to do with our altitude or something.3rd time it has happened to the same car.BMW admitted somethings wrong with those models and that they've redesigned the turbo to fit our altitude or whatever.Any ideas from your points of view? What to do?Causes????

As far as I know the 320d doesn't have a turbo, only the ones that show td after the number.

Nope .... E46 - all 320d are Turbo. Old spec ran about 110KW and about 280?NM of tourque. New spec went up by about 30NM.

BMW blames the bad fuel in SA for the problems ... funny that VW do not sit with the same problem. Heard from a Tuning agent that it is in fact got something todo with the mild steel used inside the BMW Turbo / Intercooler vs the much better VW setup. Of course - this is just what I heard ....

Just shows you that VW is better :) :). Those new spec 320D really go. Had a few robot to robot dices with a few of them, with my standard MKII 2.0L 16V. We're are fairly even.

320D New Spec: 110KW @ 4000rpm - 330NM @ 2000rpm

I also read that some of the turbo's blew on the 320d's. BMW said it was due to the hot climate or something. But they fixed the problem by somehow adjusting software.
