that bolts on really nicely, no need for modd'ing anything, nice :)

just a question, not a criticism. you say the pads stick over by about 4mm? (if i understand correctly). and given that you're running the A4 calipers that ordinarily would run the 288mm, so it clearly can run the 288mm if you can find the disc with the right offset

to fit the 312mm discs on that might be difficult because the hole to hole distance on the spacer would only be 12mm and you'd have the same issue as when you try fit 256mm discs to mk1 :?

2x DR6396 Discs-disca to be drilled for 4-hole pattern
2x Audi A4 ATE Calipers (for vented disc)
1x Set AG616 pads-sensors cut off.

The flexi brake hose goes straight into the caliper.

The coilovers are 60mm shorter than a std strut, but with my initial set up on them the car was still the same height as before-63cm. They use the original shock mounts. The 17's probably helped there too. The ride is firm, control is good and bump steer minimal, only in big dips do you get a bit. I still want to shim my rack up a bit to try get the rack ends a bit more level.
I dropped it 20mm alround. I could get my camber and everything write without jacking, so a good investment. R4000 for the set...

Are the coilovers on their lowest setting in those pics?

No can still go down 60mm!
The 312mm disc wont clear the bracket. Fit 288mm. I can do complete kits (with used calipers) for R2500 inc + post. If you want them slotted, dimple drilled or cross-drilled it will be extra. But like it is on mine except with 288mm discs.

sad_fox wrote:the mk4 280's use a completely different caliper to the VR6 280 caliper, the VR6 caliper looks very similar to the 6N polo caliper - very different to the mk4's

the offset difference between the VR6 288 and the mk4 GTi 288 is quite substantial when fitted to a car, the mk4's offset makes it a lot easier in terms of clearance

we're running 6N polo 256mm calipers on golf4 GTi discs on 15 inch wheels on my brother's golf

Ok so your brother has 288mm GTI4 disks. No chance you have a picture of his bare setup to see what the disk looks like and the adapter to run 288 with the Polo Caliper? I take it you mean the disk sits closer to the cv side than the disk side IE deeper? How does the disk thickness Affect it fitting in the caliper? 288 should be 25mm thick? Clears the caliper fine and with new pads no issue?

Sounds like a nice setup on the MK1, again have any pics of the actual setup IE adapter etc? Another thing did you change the MC on the MK1 with the bigger calipers?

I would like to keep with the Polo caliper as far as possible to keep costs down. Cheaper pads, calipers are cheap too. Just not sure if there will be enough space for an adapter on 288 much like you mentioned an adapter for 256mm on a MK1 caliper doesn't work.

Another disk I had a look at is the Alfa 145 disk. 284mm and 22mm thick but I don't think its enough space for the adapter and they R650 a disk IIRC.

@ littleG

yep the 288mm are 25mm thick, had to clear the caliper carrier a bit, no issues with new pads at all. still running stock citi master cylinder. yep, the disc sits closer to the cv, makes clearance A LOT easier on 15 inch wheels!

he's taking his motor out this weekend (bit too much boost and a faulty injector = dead piston :? ) then i'll get detailed pics of the setup.

it ought to be possible to make a bracket for 256 to 288, but a mock-up would make sure everything clears, then R700 for discs, R100'ish for brackets, and a bit of your own labour

your arguments earlier about exceeding the traction of the tyre are valid btw, i lock up a lot easier with the 280's up front, but it just requires careful modulation (as with any car without ABS) and the pedal feel is brilliant, a lot more confidence inspiring

Upwards to the front page,

Please assist I need to change the rears to Discs and the fronts to a bit bigger on my Polo. WHatr do I need to get. I tried to read this but I got totally confused. What size discs can I use on the fronts and what stub axles do I need for the rears as well as discs and caliper sizes.

My Polo is a 6n2 Polo Playa 2002 - 1.6i

Hi I think this was discussed in a previous forum your braking power does not come from the back so no need to really go disc's at the back just maybe go slightly bigger discs in front with four pot calipers and good quality pads.
