Oil buzzer - 1600 sport

Hi guys, just a quick question. Did the above mentioned car come out with a oil buzzer? I know the mk1 gti's & cti's have it but I have not heard one on my car, and there was plenty of occassions that there wsa hardly any oil in the car.

Most of them had oil buzzers - that only kicks in if the pressure drops under something like 0.5 bar and the rpm is over 2500 - so really in no pressure and hight rpm scenarios. Generally the oil light will flash as well so if you see th light flash and you are over 2500 rpm the buzzer should go on. Don't test it as this is engine damage(big ned bearing) territory

The problem is, on several occassions already I have found that there is hardly any oil on the dipstick.The oil light does'nt come on and no buzzer, however when the ignition is on the oil light comes on and once the car is started the light goes off as it should...
Is there anything I should check for, or is my only option rather to install an oil pressure and oil temp gauge.....

The fact that the oil level is low doesn't mean that the pressure will be a problem. Only when the pump can find any oil in the sump will that happen. There is no oil temp or pressure switch that will alert you to a low oil level unless like I say - there is really basically nothing in the sump and the pump goes dry. The car takes around 4 to 4.5 litres of oil. From the bottom of the dipstick to on level is about a litre so there is still around 3 litres in the sump when it's just visible at the bottom of the dipstick. But all you have to do is check the oil more regularly or figure where it's going. A health motor that ain't murdered everyday should not need more than about a litre at worst between services. I make a habit of just checking the oil every weekend.

Hi Guys

Wile on the subject about oil buzzer..I have a curious question..I drve a mk2 gti...I do sump servce every 80000kms.
My prob is i missed my last sump service...!!
As of sat my buzzer comes on only whn my oil temp is around
84 deg or so...cums on at about 2 200 rpm...if car is cold thn all normal..My current oil has bout 8000kms on it since last servce!!

Shld i replce the oil pump or jus do the sump service...
any solutions pls guys....dnt wana redo motor again..

I don't know about htis whole story. Never done this sump service thing on any of the cars I had and never had probs like that. Anyway I would say You might have an oil pump problem. If the motor was done not that long ago then the pump might be faulty. Otherwise just whip the sump off and have a look see. If the pickup is blocked you found the problem and if it aint then it's off anyway so get another pump and try that.

Hi guys, just want to inform you that yes...this car does have an oil buzzer, it came on yesterday...almost had a heart attack when I heard the noise and saw the oil light flashing....

HI Guys

I did the sumpie thng over the weekN and hey presto, it wrked..ths is wht i did...drain oil, strip sump, remve oil pump...clean oil pump and sump with petrol...oso clean surf out well...put all parts back and fill oil!!

oso did a minor servce and all seems well...no more buzzer ight for me...
I reckon try it as its bttr thn replacin motor!!
