Re: 1600 & 1800 Heads?
Combustion chamber sizes on the 1600 and 1800 carb heads are the same, as well as the MP9 heads.La-Shay Qhuan wrote:Hi guys, just a Q'

The valve sizes on the 1600 and 1800 carb heads are different.
The valve sizes on the 1600 and 1800 MP9 heads are the same.

Sorry for the n00b question, but how does one tell the difference between the different heads (1300/1400/1600/1800) (carb and MP9)?
What markings or codes can one look for to tell which head is which?
Thanks.

Re: 1600 & 1800 Heads?
Correct, except that 1600 and 1800 carb heads have the same valves, ie 34mm ex and 38mm intake. The kjet head has bigger intake (40mm) valves.MacMan wrote:Combustion chamber sizes on the 1600 and 1800 carb heads are the same, as well as the MP9 heads.La-Shay Qhuan wrote:Hi guys, just a Q'

Interesting thread. Yeah please if anyone has the code for the heads will help a whole lot to identify them.MeTsU wrote:Sorry for the n00b question, but how does one tell the difference between the different heads (1300/1400/1600/1800) (carb and MP9)?

The intake ports on the Mp9 head are oval with a machined edge on the top of the port for the injectors to fit in.MeTsU wrote:Sorry for the n00b question, but how does one tell the difference between the different heads (1300/1400/1600/1800) (carb and Mp9)
The carb head is just oval in shape.
The Kjet head have holes same as where the spark plug holes for the injectors to fit in as the injectors fit into the head.
The Kjet the injectors are in the head and mp9 its on the intake

Thanks a lot for your input guys, So when converting 1600 carb to 1800 one does not have to change the head. This is good news.
Another Q: My bro' Maestro found out from this BB that we're both running shim & bucket type tappets.(Silver Bucket & a Disc on top) Are these what's aka Solid Lifters?
2-and how do I identify Hydraulic Lifters, what do they look like?
3- Cams: How do I tell the difference between the Hyd. Cam & a Solid Lifter cam? Can I use a Hyd. Cam on shim & bucket type tappets & vise versa?
Do I need to fit a vernier together with a 276 the same time? Or can I do the cam then later the vernier?.
Your valuable input will be appreciated.
Thanks
Shay

1. Yes
2. Like solid lifters without the shim.
3. Solid heads have one cam journal less, so one journale on the cam won't have marks. You can't change the cams.
4. You can do the vernier later.
