Unichip rubbish - Biggest waste of time

My car as it was, mk3 8v MP9 , freeflow , 4-2-1 branch, cone filter and 276 cam.

Forked out R1900 for a Unichip.

Tony(Zabka) installed and tuned it.

The results are such a waste of time and money and i dont recomend this to anyone. According to the dyno chart about 3 BHP gain. I hav'nt noticed any improvement in fuel consumption and the supposedly more responsive throttle is bearly noticable.

Tony has a good reputation so i dont doubt his tuning abilities. If i hadnt seen him put the chip in i wouldnt have believed it.

I dont know what you people have experienced with chipping a N/A car but i think its a waste of money and i'm definatly not going to recomend it.

Most properly you had one the few cars that was tuned almost spot on from the factory. I don't think that you've have wasted your money. At least you know now that your car was tuned properly.
If you take another car (same model as yours) and chipped it you might find there was an increase of 10 HP. Remember no two cars have the same power from the factory.
If you're behind, you're slow. If you're in front, you're in my way.

But in this case one would have expected some tangible improvement, considering the branch and 276 cam?

Theo, the 3bhp gain is on the wheels, and is only due to the uni-chip, the other mods was on the car.
In other words, the before run was done with all the mods, then the unichip - then after run.

Indeed. But wouldn't the cam & branch only be optimised once the Unichip is added? As I understand it, the MP9 system is rather unsuited to any mods in standard form.

Mmm with claims that big do yourself a favour. Take your car to somebody else for a run. Have chiplogic do the mod and take it back to the other shop for a run and compre. I take everything they claim with a bag of salt.

I wouldnt mind adding an inexpensive Nitrous setup then at least the Unichip can make itself usefull.

If I dont do this in the next month I'm going to be selling the unichip and spend the money on something worthwhile like brakes and suspension.

Neil, I think it is quite obvious that you have no idea HOW and WHY a Unichip works. You obviously have internet access. Go to www.dastek.co.za and get informed. You have a money back guarantee on the Unichip. Take it back and stop being such a baby.

Nag ou Grootte

This was quoted from the Dastek site

“We promise the customer that the car will be as light as possible on fuel when he drives calmly and it will make as much power as possible when he puts his foot flat on the accelerator. We also promise him that if within three months he feels that it is not worth having the unichip we will remove it and refund him the full amount, including installation and mapping fee. We do not make any other promises.”
