Golf mk1 remove thermostat

Post by buttle »

is it ok to just remove the thermostat completely in my Golf1.4i??
its not like its ever going to freeze in Johannesburg... I'm have some overheating issues and I dont think the fan comes on soon enough... :bang:

I literally have to top up with water every 3 days and I cannot see any leaks or hear steam escaping!!! Also no foaming oil.
Kindest regards

So you're removing the thermostat without diagnosing what the exact issue is? That seems... Sketch

No! It's a 2 stage thermostat and without it installed and working the coolant doesn't flow through the radiator at all. Engine will run hot and cause more damage.

If you are in the East send me a PM for my number.

Removing the thermostat in any car is a bad idea, not matter where you live or what the climate is, rather get some help to diagnose the root cause of the issue.

There is a reason why engineers designed for a thermostat to be part of an engine and cooling system.
You need to diagnose the overheating issue and fix it.

It's the little things that make them run right. Anybody can slap a basic bottom end together. that is the easy bit. It's all the little things that makes these builds a success or not.
