Golf Mk5 door lock actuator

Post by dees@pgti »

Hey guys,
The front passenger door does not lock anymore so I will probably need to replace the door lock actuator.

Agents want R5600

Anyone used the ones from GW or should I look for a used one?

Hi. Look up GTiJunkies on Facebook. They break up and sell second hand spares for vw. Good pricing and good quality parts.

Have bought from them several times already. Happy customer.

Theu ship countrywide.

I was thinking of getting one of those from eBay, cause I'm not paying that. I spoke to the GW guys in Sasolburg, they couldn't give me a price but told me they sell reconditioned ones for a similar price to the agents, so I don't know. Scrapyard is another option I guess.

Not locking manually and (or) via remote? There are a number of YT vids on various repairs?

The passenger door does not have a door pin inside or lock on the outside to manually lock the door. The remote and central locking button inside the car does not lock the door.

I haven't opened anything yet but with troubleshoot the lock once I get it out and will look at the YT vids.

I did scan for codes and got,
01553 - Motor for Central Locking; Passenger Door (V57); Lock
00929 - Locking Module for Central Locking; Front Passenger Side (F221)

Just an update on this issue.

I removed the door lock actuator and stripped it apart a while back. It has a mechanical and an electrical side and almost always its the electrical side that goes faulty. The electrical side on my one was still clean inside and the circuit board had no dry joints. I tested the 2 micro switches and they were fine. The 3rd micro switch is on the mechanical side which had a bit of dirt on it so I cleaned and tested it as well. Everything still looked good so I put it back together and tested it connected and it locked and unlocked fine a few times so I fitted the lock back into the door. This worked for about 2 weeks then it started intermittently locking the door and eventually stopped working on the 4th week.

I still didn't want to spend R1200 on an aftermarket lock just yet and decided to open the actuator one last time. I checked the circuit board and tested the micro switches again and it was still good. This time I removed the 2 motors and stripped them following the write up here https://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums ... 28588.html. Used fine sand paper on the commutator and cleaned the inside with electrical spray and put the motors back together. In my case the smaller motor had a much high resistance before sanding and cleaning the motor.

The door lock has been working fine for 6 months now.
