Cannot unlock passenger door on Polo Classic 1.6 sedan

Post by emve »

My 2006 Polo Classic 1.6 Comfortline (9N4 series) developed a problem with the passenger door a while ago. It would occassionally not unlock with the central locking remote. The other doors work without any problem. Using the switch on the driver side door to lock the doors and then pressing it again to onlock the doors would unlock it after one or more attempts.

This week, however, it does not work any more. The door stays locked. Worse, I cannot get it unlocked to open the door and remove the lock to repair. Even trying to manually open the door with the handle from the inside does not work; the pin rises when the handle is pulled, but retracts again as soon as the handle is released. Grabbing the pin before releasing the handle does not work either, as you cannot get a good enough grip on the pin to prevent it from retracting again.

Any ideas to get the door unlocked? It has to be unlocked to get acces to the trim to remove the trim and remove the lock mechanism.
