Hoodliner on Mk7 Gti

Post by sbu.mah »

I've noticed my hoodliner is sagging and figured removing it it's just a matter of taking out the clips and done.

My question before going that route, is there really any need to have one. Cause I have noticed some cars don't have that including some Mk7s

Why would VW put them in some cars but not all (same to other manufacturers)?

Some say is for noise insulation, protecting the paint against heat and also as a bit of deterrent should the engine catch fire.

Your paint will crack/fade from the heat, might not be immediate but will happen over time.
.
I would just leave it in

A client of mine has a 2014 Mk7 GTI and he removed the hoodliner a few weeks after he got the car (bought it brand new in December 2014).
Bonnet paint is still perfect to this day. And he drives it hard sometimes and the car has over 170K km on it and has done the Jhb to Slaapstad return trip a few times as well.

Definitely not true.

That hoodliner is just to absorb engine noise. I have removed them on all my VW's.

I think you right, cause under VW catalogue the hoodliner falls under sound insulator
