Quick question to Golf 4 drivers. Can someone check in their Golf 4 what is the colour of the rear window defroster switch illumination when one switches the car's lights ON, but the defroster is still OFF?
I seem to remember that this night-time illumination of my Golf 4's rear window defroster switch used to be red, like everything else. Lately I've noticed it is a medium yellow, which changes to bright yellow when I engage the switch. I seem to remember that it used to be the standard red, and only changed to yellow when switching it on. I find the medium yellow illumination distracting.
But I may be confusing it with my Audi, which changed from red to yellow when switching on.

Re: Mk4 Golf defroster switch illumination colour?
A few weeks ago, I de-mothballed my old 500 SE and used it for a few days. That's probably when my brain conbombulated itself. The switch-over from red to yellow in the Audi was what I had seen and internalised for 15 years.
Back in the Golf, to add to the confusion, the Mk4 aircon switches do exactly the same red-yellow-switch. So of course now I kept on noticing the difference on the defroster switch after having noticed it the first time. Thanks for disconbombulating me.

Re: Mk4 Golf defroster switch illumination colour?
Thread resurrection for feedback.
Yellow it is not! It should indeed be red, and only change to yellow once you switch on the actual defroster. Just like I thought I remembered it.
If it's a dim yellow, even when switched off, this indicates a broken earth connection, and the defroster doesn't actually work.

Ha, I wasn't confused after all.
