Lifespan on a 1.4i mp9 motor

Post by sleepy96 »

Howzit Dubbers

I have a 2003 citi golf 1.4i mp9 with 230 000 kms on the clock. The engine still runs like a dream even though I drove it hard since buying the car (I do service it regularly though)

What is the highest mileage you've ever seen on those motors without being overhauled.?

Neighbours daughter has one with over 300K km on it and still runs perfectly.
They have also had it since new and also serviced every 10 000km.

My CTi had 380000km on it when I sold it. The new owner converted it to MP9 head and is still running with the same bottom end.

A while back I serviced one with 430000km on it and aside from the usual issues it ran well.

I remember seeing one with 500 000km and still running well.
The owner mentioned the secret being that he serviced the motor continuously with out fail.

They are good reliable motor with no issues at all, keep keep on doing regular service continuously.

The VW 8 valve engine design is probable the best engine they ever designed.
As mentioned, if you look after it, it will last forever.

I met a guy the other day that's 1.4 had just clicked over to 1,000,000 km with only the head gasket being replaced at some stage.

Had an ex co worker, he did long trips, his also clicked over the 1Bar km and the conditions was dent and accident free.

He only replaced water pump and head gasket.

Also serviced on the dot and not a km over

There was a battle raging when I was growing up in the 80's about Toyota vs VW reliability. It might be controversial but I think VW won it in the end. You see a lot more old VW's today than any other brand. Fords and Opels just melted away over the years.( Thats why people want 300k for Superbosses - none survived😂)

It was looking a little tired. Had some dents. Doors were a bit saggy. The car is oviously used a lot on dirt roads and the handbreak didn't work. But the engine seemed healthy. Did not smoke. Didn't make any weird noise. And it started right up as it should.
