VW Microbus 2.6i

Post by BenSA54 »

What type of spark plugs is the best for the Microbus 2.6i? This is what the Handbook suggest but I had a few mishapps with NGK's lately on my Mercedes. Is there a Bosch sparkplug for the 2.6i that you can recommend ?Image

But that is for the 70KW 1.8 Jetta 4 cylinder engine? The 2.3 (90Kw) and the 2.6i (100KW) is a different plug and there is no Bosch plug specified.

Uhm. it's the same plug for all of them. Thus the bosch equivalent is also the same.

Thanks, I will try them. The bus developed a misfire at times. We replaced the fuel pump with a new Bosch pump but the problem is still there. I remember from a 2.6i I owned 15 years ago that the suppressors had to be replaced. So, we will start with spark plugs and maybe the coil. I had an old Mercedes 280S W108 with a faulty coil. The symptons were the same. Thanks for your help. If you think we must do something else I will appreciate your input.

missfire at times can be anything and impossible to guess without some sort of diagnostic. There can be a massive amount of possibilities so won't even want to start.

Check the cap of the dizzy for cracks.

Microbus/Caravelle engine bays are very hot and plastic don't last forever.

This is like phoning the doctor and saying. hey man I'm sick what's wrong with me.
It's very unlikely to be the block.
engine need three things to run
Compression ( so cam timing and basic engine must be good)
fuel
spark at the right time.
Is there fuel pressure
is there spark
is there compression.
Come back after you have checked those
