Huh? A genuine Bosal towbar has the brackets integrated into the towbar - IOW, you remove the standard bumper brackets so that you could fit the towbar.

Methinks someone lost/threw the original brackets away and proceeded to grind them off the towbar, rendering it useless.

There are also 2 versions of mk1 bumper.
Original steel jobs
Plastic cover jobs
For the first one I think they were indeed welded to the towbar and you just bolted the steel bumper on straight to that
For the plastic jobs you had to bolt the stiffener to the towbar and then clip the plastic bumper on and I think those were bolt onto the towbar. But it's easy enought to work it out by just looking at what is needed.
Otherwise just contact bosal and ask if they can help you. They do still exist.

AFAIK, only one Bosal towbar that fits all A1 Golfs - and it requires that you remove the existing OEM brackets for fitment, like so:

ETA: DO NOT (ever) use the existing OEM bumper brackets to fit any towbar to - you WILL thank me later!

I think we are talking about different brackets. You are talking about the thing that has 2 bolts each side that sticks into the channel. I am talking about the bracket that the bumper stiffener then mounts to the towbar to.
I think the OP needs to post a picture or clarify which part he is talking about.

So you do not need bumper brackets, as I have previously stated.

1. Remove existing bumper by removing the 4 bolts on the inside, under the carpet - keep these bolts for refitting towbar;
2. Remove the bumper brackets from the rest of the bumper, again retaining all bolts;
3. You are now left with what is called a bumper stiffener which bolts into those holes - if memory serves ...
4. Refit in reverse order!

So as I stated originally, you might need to make up the brackets to bolt the stiffener to the towbar.

Yip Bosal described it as a L Bracket.

The L-brackets should already be fitted to your existing bumper stiffener, if memory serves. I know that I did not have to buy any extras when I fitted the towbar to my wife's CitiGolf.

My L brackets are not correct. Are they different on new citis?
