2010 polo 1.6 engine overhaul

Hi, my girlfriend drives a 2010 polo 1.6 petrol and it's showing EPC fault and the diagnosis says there's more resistance on cylinder 1.the car is jacking on 1st & 2nd gear/low speed and there is oil on the plugs. They say it needs an overhaul. Between an overhaul and getting an engine from a scrap yard, which one is the better option and why?
