Dicktator 60-2 Crank Trigger erratic

Post by Pynoxim »

Oh hi,

Has anyone ever had the issue where their crank trigger signal is erratic? When I crank the starter, the yellow light on the Dicktator will flash and then stop flashing and then start flashing again etc. it's super erratic. When I check on the Dicktator software the cranking RPM's go from 250-300rpm then to 0 then single digits then 250 etc.

My crank wires are semi-shielded but I have no idea how much shielding affects the crank trigger signal, please advise if possible.

Also I don't have pin 3 (Shield) on my trigger sensor grounded to the ECU, I just left it open. Should I ground it? or will not grounding it be fine too.

pins 1,2 on sensor to 1 and 11 on box and pin 3 to 9 or 10
yes shielded if possible. also gap must be right and consistent

Sure, I'll run pin 3 to ECU pin 9/10. It's an APK with the Bosch Crank Sensor in the block, it's the stock sensor, never been removed. I'll pick up a spare tomorrow just incase as I know it's probably going to die at some point anyways.

Also thanks Panic.

Just pull the sensor and have a look at the wheel - it could have been bumped. Yeah possibly put a fresh one.

Is your Dicktator main power feed and earth wires connected direct on to the battery terminals?

My main power is connected to the main power feed on the inside of the cabin and the earth is connected to the chassis as the battery is in the boot and is earthed directly to the chassis in the boot.

Actually the main power is off my distribution box and the earth is off two separate earth points on the chassis

Get those wires up to the battery terminals. Dicktator doesn’t like to be connected to distribution terminal points or chassis earth points.

Go with Panic’s post then and check sensor and sebsor wiring.

Do check the voltage at ecu end, just to be sure that it is still within the voltage requirements.

Alright, bought a new sensor, no difference, so I got my spare crank sensor plug out of my box of tricks, twist and taped 3 wires onto it, ran Pin 1 to ground, Pin 2 to 1 on the Dicktator and Pin 3 to Pin 11 on the Dicktator, so now I get consistent trigger signal, so now all I need to do is to get it to start. On Rising edge my trigger angle is 50, set by setting Dicktator to 20 Degrees and then using my Advance Timing Light to check that trigger signal is on point since the light is consistent now. But I believe Rising Edge is incorrect so I changed it to falling edge which means my trigger angle should be 74? or 26? Anyhow, my battery died so it's currently on charge. Also I couldn't get it to start with the 1800 8v base map, it tried a few times but just dies almost immediately. I have no wideband at present so I can't see fuelling on cranking.

The lowest trigger angle selectable on Dicktator is 30. Your trigger angle should be between 30 and 45, rising, falling, rising selected on trigger page for the 3 settings.

PM me your email and I will send you a startup map tonight.

Change 3 triggers on sensor page to the "Default setting", Falling, Rising Falling. By changing the Input trigger edge to "Rising" you advance timing by 24 degrees, Changing the "Home Position" to Falling retard timing 24 degrees.

You are using MAP based map??? In first 3 (250 to 1000 RPM) blocks on bottom left in the 0.99 and -0,56 columns -- change the timing value to 6 degrees. This should get you started.
