Citi Golf: vibration on deceleration

Post by 2226cc »

2006 Citi 1.4 carb.
Recent work done:
- new clutch, rear main seal + skimmed flywheel
- balljoints
- tie-rod ends
- front shocks
- brakes discs + pads
- new strut mounts

Inspected CVs and bearings and all seems good.
Had to do the strut mounts as the bearing broke right through the retaining cap on the mounts I had.

Driving 120km/h, back off the throttle and I get rumble/vibration from what seems to be the passenger side front. Back on throttle and it subsides. Brakes not applied when it happens. It's not a crazy vibration and rumble but we know these things just wind up getting worse with time.

Trying to figure out what I should be looking at.
Mounts perhaps? Control arm bushes? Tyre issue? Or could it be a driveshaft? Perhaps something not cool with the clutch work done?

What sort of vibration? Encountered an exhaust vibration once when I redid the clutch on my car and then fitted the rear gearbox mount with too little'slant' which caused the exhaust to touch the steering rack.

Did you do wheel bearings?

No, as mentioned, checked wheel bearings and those are fine.

It's a rumbling feeling when you lift off the pedal at speed. I think it's that gearbox mount and the front torque mount. Tried this morning on low speed and I have that feeling of the motor bouncing/rocking back and forth more than expected. Might as well replace them after doing all this other work.

Rocking back and forth is definitely the front and rear engine mount. Perhaps the mount under wasn't fitted correctly? Check the front as well as both are opened when the gearbox is taken out.

Check if th gearbox mounting, that bolts on below TH battery, is fitted correctly. This mounting might be making contact with the mounting points on the car, hence the vibration.
