Speed vs gears
Hi I drive a Citi golf without rpm gauge. What's the ideal speed for changing gears? Its a 5 speed 1.6 carb. I'm after good fuel economy and long lasting engine. Please advise.

Re: Speed vs gears
You can check the gearbox code and check the gear rations to determine what the revs will be for each gear.
But i think practically you can hear and feel when its time to change.

Re: Speed vs gears
Many clusters have the max rpm gear change speed indicated in the cluster. Go look for little red marks on your speedo. Those are the rev limit speeds on the cluster for each gear. If you want long life change at about half that ? But seriously common sense should tell you when the engine starts straining...
So on this one just short of 40 for 1st - 65 ish second etc.
