G6 tsi 1.4 CAXA (timing chain)

Post by silverstone »

Gents
Came across this vid. Actually this is part 3 of replacing timing chain and stuff. Its German (i think)...

https://youtu.be/sZ0OQ2DWizI

After the replacing, car still doesnt idle quiet. So my question is... What is that noise if it aint timing chain/tensioner/camshaft adjuster related??

Mine sound like that idling. But the other noise with cold start up is only there for few seconds then goes away... And i believe that is the chain issue. But his noise...

The noise you hearing on idle is the High pressure fuel pump, its the solenoid on the pump that's pulsing to regulate fuel pressure.

The cold start noise is the Cam Adjuster, worn gear inside the adjuster causing oil the bleed from the internals, so you get a loud clucking sound.

These are common issues on these engines with the older part revision.

I've had to the replaced both HPFP as well as the Chain\Guide\Cam Adjuster. :bang: :bang:

Thanx BoraMad. But shouldnt a diagnostic scan pic up any fault condition on the solenoid?
2 different VW's checked the car.. Said nothing is wrong.

because computer diagnostic does not have noise as a parameter and it does not have ears. If it is delivering the correct pressure and operating it will not show a fault because it is noisy.

Exactly Panic. So do we say its faulty because we hear noise... Or is it faulty because its not delivering and operating as it should. Im an instrument mech... And from my experience noise is usually a first sign of failure to come. But it cant be proof enough of certain failure. Same case?

I'm just telling you why the diagnostic does not show a fault. IE it is still working as it should despite what your ears tell you.
Not discussing the merits of future failure etc. I don't do noises on the net. Unless one can hear it yourself it's plain and simple guesswork.
