Nothelle VDO cluster

Post by smashedmink »

So I’ve just purchased a Nothelle mk1 VDO cluster from Germany but I cannot find any information on these anywhere online!

Only difference I can see is the obvious white dials, speedometer reading up to 240km/h and the nothelle inscription on the dials.

Does anybody on this here toilet forum know anything more about this mysterious piece?

I bought it from Germany and it’s getting shipped to me in the US, I’ll then be shipping this with some other parts home to SA.

I could cross-post this in my old German Audi Forum (many of whom also have VWs), but you would have to be more specific in what you actually want to know.

If you need anything translated from German, let me know. (Within limits, obviously...)

I would appreciate that!

I’m not sure if there is anything to know?
Apart from the white face and speedometer reading up to 240km/h there shouldn’t be much. A google search reveals not even a pic of another one of these, so I’m just curious as to how many were ever made and why?

To me, it looks like a GTI cluster that was re-printed on white and extended from 220 to 240. The °C marking on the temp. gauge is also a bit of an idiosyncrasy. [Edit 2: as is the "TANK" instead of the bowser icon.] I wouldn't be surprised if it's a once-off.

[Edit 1: I've just cross-posted your pics in my old type 44 forum. Will let you know if anybody digs something up.]

I was worried it was just white faces put on a normal cluster, in which case I got ripped off properly Image

I remember seeing a Mk 1 cluster just the other day, with an economy gauge at the top centre, and the temp. gauge placed next to the fuel gauge under the rev counter. [Edit: it also had a MFI.] Was it here on the forum? I'd never seen one like that. Was the econ. gauge standard on the GTI?

The econ gauge was not standard on the GTi BUT it was standard on the GLi - ie the jetta version of them.
