My mechanic believes in Ferrodo disks and I mainly use ATE pads ever since years ago when they were standard kit on VW.

ATE pads dont seem to dirty the wheels as much as others I have tried, and are also fairly easy to clean off the wheels.

Yeah I really don't share your enthusiasm for ATE pads. They are terrible in terms of performance and longevity. But fortunately it's a free country.
On average run of the mill cars you probably won't notice a difference but go brake a couple of successive runs from 120 and see what they do.

Wow I never knew ATE were bad. I have ATE at the back, not sure what at the front.

on the back you'll never notice. Only brakes a very small percentage of what the fronts does. I'm not saying they are BAD I'm just saying it ain't a premium pad that does not take a lot to overheat and fade.

Ferodo for the win for me. The experts will know better but for me Ferodo seems to be a softer pad which I prefer. So what if it dirties the rims. I want safety.

My wife's car I installed ATE's this past December and now she is complaining that the pads squeak frequently and it sounds like metal on metal when braking at slow speeds. Comparing ATE's to Ferodo, I think ATE's are a harder pad.

Dankie Stephan, Het opgeeindig met Brembo en ate discs. Sal maar sien hoe dit gaan. GW was n biedjie duurder op pagid en discs.

People complain about dust.....means it is a softer pad, most likely with better pedal feel. Also a Ferodo guy, then Pagid, ATE will be towards the end of my list.

I am also been a Ferodo guy nje and before that i was a Safeline pad.

I had a very very bad experience with Ferodo in 1992. Fitted new pads on 323 SLi at Ferodo wholesale agent in JHB CBD. Went to Ellisras a few days later. had to do emergency brake close to Vaalwater for cattle that suddenly appear from the bushes. Pedal almost went to the floor, massive metal on metal noise from the left side, car swerved right & if it was not for my rally training I would have rolled the bl00dy thing. Once stationery and I stopped shaking took the left fron wheel off. The friction material separated from the metal portion of the pads. Brand new disk also f-uped in the process. Since then Forodo is on my BMW list neither allowed into my premises.

Ferodo like BMW tried their driver abuse sh1t first, but eventually gave me a new set of pads & disks. I changed the new Ferodo pads for ATE at the time.

Panic-mechanic which pads would you reccomend then? I am open to suggestions....

In theory, yes. That's why I never liked the Ceramic pads from Ferodo. I have only used Ferodo on my challenge car. First the normal Ferodo Platinums and then later DS. I prefer a softer pad (more dust/wears quicker) as you get better initial bite from them. For best longivity, bed in new pads and disks correctly.

see post 2. Pagid is my goto Pad.

Try Bosch all round, usually we spec Brembo pads and bosch discs.

Most cars oe would be bosch and ferodo, ate was famous with toyota buy recent models run bosch.

Hella Pagid is great stuff but only one dealer network.

Safeline is ok, normal use wont affect or phase the driver.

Just stick to known brands, ATE is generally hard pads. The rest vary a bit.
