Timing chain jumping after oil change

Post by Dayknight-VW »

Hi guys. Did an oil change on a vivo 1.4. Timing change jumped on startup after oil change. Apparently oil drained out from the hyydrolic tensioner and the timing jumped. Is there anyone who has had this issue before or is there any other way or technique to changing oil on a chain driven motor. It's not first time this has happened from speaking to a few guys. Oil was very hot when I drained it out. Car is fairly new. 60000km. Just finding out as I want to avoid this issue in future.

Never heard this happen and I come from Nissan car family where all the old school Datsuns were using the oil pressure technique to put tension on chain. Even my Datsun takes quite some time to get oil pressure after a oil change. Sounds like diesel engine for couple of seconds until there is oil pressure.
Did you blimp the throttle?
My friend at work also told me once his Merc sounds like diesel after oil change until there is oil pressure.

Just thinking of something. Can't you remove spark and crank until oil light is out and then connect spark back and then it will not happen?
It will put a little more stress on the starter when you are cranking so long.

I also didn't hear of this issue until it happened to me. Been reading up on some seat and vw forums apparently its a common issue. Like 1 in 10 engines. Just wondering if anyone experienced it here

never heard of that on an oil change. Yes on a vr6 on initial start after a rebuild.
